U.S. Postmaster General: Postal Service Could ‘Collapse’ in Wake of Coronavirus Outbreak
Breitbart ^ | April 12,2020 | PENNY STARR

U.S. Postmaster General Megan Brennan told the House Committee on Oversight and Reform late last week in a video that unless the U.S. Postal Service gets a federal bailout it will run out of money by the end of September.

Mail volume has fallen steeply in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, and the federal agency is expecting the same downward turn in revenues.

At a time when America needs the Postal Service more than ever, the reason we are so needed is having a devastating effect on our business,” Brennan said in the statement. “The Postal Service relies on the sale of postal products and services to fund our operations, and these sales are plummeting as a result of the pandemic. The sudden drop in mail volumes, our most profitable revenue stream, is steep and may never fully recover.”

“The USPS said the pandemic will increase its net operating loss by more than $22 billion over the next 18 months and by over $54 billion over the coming years,” Huffington Post reported.

I’ve always thought, based on postal performance, that Cliff Claven was the Postmaster General...

My online eBay sales have actually increased since Feb.

5 packages going out tomorrow alone. That is on top of over a dozen the past 3 days.

She is only still in her position because Trump didn’t come up with a nominee to replace her when her five-year term was up in January.

Yeah, I feel so bad. The USPS makes plenty of money on the junk mail they deliver. They lose money by delivering Amazon’s stuff at ridiculously low rates, and the USPS even delivers for them on Sundays. Are postal employees making extra money for working on Sunday? (I don’t know the answer to that.)

USPS spends how much money paying artists to design new stamps? Why are these new designs necessary?

The USPS budget is AT LEAST twice what it should be int he new era.

NOBODY needs snail mail 6 days a week.

NOBODY.

Cut it to 3 days a week and eliminate garbage mail.

That meets the constitutional requirement.

Hell, ONE DAY PER WEEK meets the constitutional requirement...at least.

Fire the rest of them. Keep the facilities and trucks and counter staff etc.

But cut this budget by 50% TODAY!

That would be great...no more having to make out Christmas cards, and I’ll have excuses not to send birthday cards with money gifts in them. Saves me time and money.

:: ... 2020 mail-in election. IMHO, THAT’S why the dems want the money for USPS.::

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good point. Had not even thought of that.
I remember when I was a METER READER, and I went to the Post Office, and wondered if I could SYNC the path I walked to read meters, with the path the postal worker walked. Herein, when the water bills were printed out, it would all be IN ORDER and in bundles so that the Postal Workers didn’t need to SORT them. The Postal Workers Union, lowered the boom, and said they would have NO SUCH cooperation, that they tried to create a LABOR INTENSIVE workplace. Time to deliver mail 3 times a week,
US Postal service collapsed long ago. It took the free market to create a profitable postal service that actually delivers to rural areas.
The Government could not run a lemomaid stand at a profit.
I chose Four sequential days to make a full time work week. Four on and three off is orderly and less disruptive. 40 hour work week.
I could pick and choose my hours at my last job and this is what I did. Very nice...smooth going.
Same thing they said the last time they were bailed out. After more than doubling fees since then, they still have yet to reap a profit. Time to let it fail...maybe the only way they will learn.
I’ve seen a massive drop in junk mail since the economy was shutdown. The Post Office musk rely heavily on that business to keep afloat.
Suddenly I am in favor of vote by mail. As long as it’s by UPS or FedEx so we can track our ballots to make sure they got to their destination.
GOOD. Hire UPS, FedEx,and Amazon to deliver the mail. They’ll do a better job for billions less.
