A group of Outer Banks property owners have filed a federal lawsuit against local officials who have blocked them from accessing their second homes during the coronavirus pandemic. On March 20, North Carolina's Dare County - which includes the middle part of the Outer Banks - issued an order barring non-state residents from entering the area in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19. Checkpoints have been set up along major highways, and those trying to enter the county must produce a North Carolina driver's license or a 'Permanent Resident Permit'.

Where ?
Our legal residence is in St. Pete. We bailed in early March for our home in TN because it’s “country” - much safer regarding the fake-pandemic (only 3 reported cases in this county so far). I’m glad we left when we did.
Forbidding anyone to go to their home just seems so .. communist.
I see you’ve been hitting the alcohol pretty early today !
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.
Overnight we have lost our freedoms. No more “land of the free.” It’s more like “land of half the folks want everything free.”
Interesting how neighbor turned on neighbor during the
“we’re all in this together, America” pandemic, isn’t it?
I caught a whiff of this when I was in Florida, where I own property, a few weeks ago.
How is that supposed to work?
Wouldnt be too hard.
1. Bring your groceries with you instead of buying them there.
2. Fill up the car out of town.
3. Anything else needed buy it online instead of locally.
4. Cook at home instead of eating out.
Im sure even you could think of a couple more.
Wait...maybe not.

“There’s a flu. We took your house to stop it. Go away or we’ll shoot you.”
“There is absolutely no constitutional or legal basis to block a homeowner from their property.”
Local authorities acting irrationally, or in defiance of the Constitution or even state law, is not to be unexpected. All that legal stuff goes right out the window when it comes to (their definition of) self-preservation. I’d envisioned this happening on the small town level...with Sheriff Joe Bob and his deputies blocking the roads...turning away outsiders. But, I never expected to see it at the county or even the state level (Florida).
Hey, we live and we learn.
A giant front end loader would work to get through the roadblock.
This isn’t the CDC or the WHO. These are local “officials” representing permanent residents.
People are panicked on both sides.
I will say that I think that the law suit sounds as stupid as the attempt to “flee” to these islands.
When this is over, sell your vacation home, if you are of the persuasion that it is some kind of a “bomb shelter”. It isn’t.
Many summer rental revenue will be lost and mortgages defaulted on.
so far, I’ve stayed away. but I’ll give it a couple weeks and then I’m heading home.
Im a local here in OBX and I agree with the decision to close the area, just as they do during hurricane emergencies. This is my ONLY property and when I leave during mandatory evacuations I cant get back to my property until the lock down is lifted. Even though Im a huge supporter of property rights, the reality here is that resources simply dont exist to manage large humanitarian disasters. Our local population is around 33K, and though that swells to 300+k in the summer, our one hospital has capacity to deal with the smaller local community only. If more than 20 people needed ICU, wed already be done for. Even the grocery stores barely have enough for the locals. As an aside, Ive always understood that another reason they shut down during big emergencies is to stop looters going after all those vacation homes as well. Im sure the owners dont mind such lockdowns then, or if they do, Ive never heard about it.

We have 2nd home on Tx coast, just went and checked on it earlier this week. Those things are exactly what we did. Wife did go to grocery store for things for a neighbor there, who has a bad gum/tooth infection and does not what to go out for that reason. Trying not to be cynical but come hurricane season when we hear we must help, support aid, etc our coastal citizens, I may remember all of this.
The people on the Outer Banks have been whipped into a fearful panic by the MSM. In that state of fear they are more than willing to go along with ending the whole notion of property rights.
Fear leads to panic buying and hoarding. Forget about working together, confidence or trust in your neighbors only buying what they need - better buy a lot, stock up, I got mine...
This whole episode is showing us through numerous similar examples that society, convention, politeness etc. are very fragile things. Cracks appear easily. And they wonder why we demand the ability to protect ourselves...
Are you really in favor of the government preventing people from going to property they rightfully own?
I may remember all of this.
Id recommend you do. Then deny them any of your hard earned dollars.

Do you believe that preventing people from going to their own property is unconstitutional?
What constitutional authority does the government have to prevent people from going to their property?
People like that need a good dose of “jewish lightning”
