A group of Outer Banks property owners have filed a federal lawsuit against local officials who have blocked them from accessing their second homes during the coronavirus pandemic. On March 20, North Carolina's Dare County - which includes the middle part of the Outer Banks - issued an order barring non-state residents from entering the area in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19. Checkpoints have been set up along major highways, and those trying to enter the county must produce a North Carolina driver's license or a 'Permanent Resident Permit'.

Great, this is what needs to happen! If they lose in court then I will ask my local government to stop non-locals from going to Gay Week. After all 300,000 plus died in the USA due to Aids. So we need to protect the children.......
I know that a lot of people disagree with this, but I think this is a matter of property rights. These people didn’t go from NY to NC to get a hotel room or a rental. If you block their access to their own property (for which they have been paying taxes), they are still in your state anyway. Test them, or let them in and tell them to self-quarantine for 14 days. Otherwise, turn them back at the state border.

I’m in the exact situation except on the Gulf coast...and it is my ‘legal’ residence. I was told by neighbors there, best not to show up...

Absolutely, that plus the fair market value of the property that the state of North Carolina has decided to steal from them, and triple punitive damages as well.
I don’t know why people are surprised about this - it says right in the Constitution that that our rights are sacrosanct until flu season and then slavery is legal again until the head of the CDC or WHO says we can have our rights back.

Its a bad situation. You have an ojt of state second home thats empty, whos checki g on it? at the same time hou are traveling to another state when a state lockdown is called for. Whos right ? Do out of staters have the right to leave ? do the locals have a right to lock out property owners? Im one of those who are locked out. I dont know whether to be mad, or just shut up and ask a neighbor to look at the house. because theres no excuse for going on vacation just because you can and no one else can. And do you want to tell your boss you are sock when you get back ( if you did get sick in. N.C. or do you want to tell the outer banks authorities you may have brought the flu with you “because traveled from out of state just to see your other house? “ its about as cleat as mud. the prudent tj6ing to do is sit your butt home and stay there

They had best not charge them property taxes for the time.
There is zero constitutional right to deprive them of their property.
