A Louisiana preacher insists on still holding services despite his state being a coronavirus hotspot and orders aimed at curbing the deadly outbreak because his congregants are ready to die for their faith. The Rev. Tony Spell of Life Tabernacle Church in Central City already faces six misdemeanor charges after he held Palm Sunday services last weekend that attracted hundreds to his church, including many who came in 26 packed buses. Spell was unapologetic when asked in an interview if he thought he would have blood on his hands if one of his congregants becomes infected and dies. 'Like any revolutionary, or like any zealot, or like any pure religious person, death looks to them like a welcome friend. ' he says. 'True Christians do not mind dying. They fear living in fear.'

Geez....God gave most of us brains for a reason.....
This pastor obviously stood in the wrong line......
A long time ago, a snake handler asked me if I wanted to join him and learn to do what he did. Even though I’m not as afraid of snakes as most people, I declined. The proposal reminded me of those who joined the Reverend Jim Jones to eventually be treated to a Kool-Aid party.

Great idea! Help the Muzzies and the atheists thin out Christians more rapidly.(/s)
I have as much authority to speak for Christ as Rev. Spell does, and my authoritative pronouncement is that true Christians don’t mind dying, but they do mind dying of hawg stupidity.
It’s a shame there’s so much of that out there.
Romans 13:1-7
Submission to Governing Authorities
13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is Gods servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are Gods servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are Gods servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
Thats not an effective passage to cite in this circumstance because someone will just respond with Acts 4.18-20, which limits Pauls admonition of Romans 13.
You shall not put the Lord, my God, to the test.
In other words, if and when the governors order the confiscation of private weapons, we just hand them over because the police are “only following orders” of governing authorities? What about some of these recent proclamations that government should remove infected persons from our homes, but do so in a “safe and dignified manner”? That didn’t work so well for the Jews in WWII, numerous ethnicities in Soviet Russia, the nationalist Chinese and so on, all of which were “governing authorities.”
Nah, don’t think so.
I happen to believe that God had a lot to do with the creation of the United States and he expects us to honor and maintain the gift of freedom. We haven’t done so well in that regard.
The media never chastised homosexuals for bathhouse activity or bug chasing parties.
Everybody wants to go to Heaven
But nobody wants to die
I agree with you. Sanctimoniously quoting Romans every time someone mentions a law they don’t like isn’t the idea. Abortion is legal too.
Constitutionally, I believe the governors who by edict shut down the free exercise of religion and created laws with fines and jail are on very thin ice. I hope there will be many legal challenges after the dust settles.
At the same time, the few churches who do continue to meet are led by stupid people who don’t have their members safety in mind. I suspect they may face some legal issues too if there is an outbreak in their church.
I certainly miss my church friends but with today’s technology, while it’s not nearly the same, it’s better than it ever was.
We had a men’s Bible study by Zoom yesterday. We spent the first 45 minutes just chatting and catching up with the guys.
Him first.
Very stupid.
committing suicide is against the law because it’s destruction of government property
Speak for yourself.
BTW, buddy, got a chapter and verse for that?
