All state and county parks and forests in New Jersey have been ordered closed indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Tuesday.
“Don’t think I take this action lightly,” Murphy said at the Trenton War Memorial during his daily coronavirus press briefing. “We have seen far too many instances where people have gathered in groups in parks erroneously thinking since they are outside social distancing doesn’t matter," the governor said. “Nothing can be further than the truth.”
New Jerseyans are allowed to go outside for exercise under the governor’s order to stay inside, though Murphy insisted they “must do this close to home” and should abide by social distancing rules.
The decision on whether local town parks may remain open still will be left up to municipalities, Murphy said. Some have already moved to close parks.
State officials reported Tuesday the coronavirus death toll in New Jersey has increased to 1,232, while total cases in the state have hit 44,416.

There are many many sand and dirt roads through the Pine Barrens in South Jersey. Some are fire breaks and some go all the way back to Colonial days. The Rangers will block off these roads.

But while those roads may be blocked, they generally don't have a fence around every inch of Pine Barrens. Indeed, if you travel down the GSP there are miles of woodlands that are porous.
