Many of Brooklyn's Hasidic Jewish community gathered for the funeral of a beloved rabbi on Sunday despite being ordered to stay home by the governor and after NYPD cops broke up a different funeral hours earlier. The funeral was for Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Meislish, 80, and was in Williamsburg on Sunday night. Mourners flocked to the streets to pay their respects without wearing masks or gloves, ignoring social distancing guidelines despite repeated pleas from local government leaders to stay at home. Hours earlier, NYPD officers broke up the funeral of Rav Yosef Kalish, 62, in Brooklyn's Borough Park.

Um, I do.
they really should give one for themselves....
I think, rather, their notion about what constitutes an “essential” activity is different from their local government’s.
God bless you. I wish you can knock some sense into your co-religionists.
The Hasidic really do not give a *hit about the gentiles and non-Hasidic Jews.

I’m not sure where you got that opinion. Just take Dr. Zelenko, he is a Hasidic Jew and he has done more to save the world from COVID-19 than anyone.
I am also unsure if this group is Hasidic.
There are two major groups of black suit wearing Orthodox: Hasidic and Haredim. People lump the two together incorrectly.
I am Hasidic (Chabad). We tend to have a secular education in addition to religious. We are also often very Zionist.
The Haredi are groups like the Satmar and NK. They are strongly anti-Zionist, broken in cult-like groups that hate each other. And, depending on what subset, are anti-vax and generally crappy to people. The NK meet with the leaders of Iran. They cause problems in Lakewood, NJ.
Anyway, tired of getting lumped in with the Jewish version of the Westboro Baptist. They give us a bad name, just like the WB give you a bad name.
Perhaps they painted lambs blood on the door?i
Passover and Easter are close this year.
They are very insular, in ALL their activities, as much as they can, including their work and where they shop. My guess is any additional Covid-19 deaths obtained by their gatherings will be internal to their group. They should know THAT is a choice they are making. No one can help it if they ignore it.
What is “WB”?
I am too dumb.
See the bold text above.
This will turn into a culling
Glad you are here to enlighten folks.
Yet, living as I do in a community that has a high population of Orthodox Jewish folks, and many Conservative & Reformed Jewish folks as well, I can say that most of the Orthodox here are very insular, in personal-social life where they live, in the work/jobs they have, and to as much as possible where they shop. When they are in close contact with folks (around here) the greatest likelihood is they are among other Orthodox.
Yes, I acknowledge that taking mass transit around NYC is a big caveat to that. Yet, I think the greatest threat they pose as far as their gathering in groups and Covid-19, is within their group.
I think they are intelligent enough that they must know that.
I therefor leave judgement on their gatherings to G-d.
I do not assign “blame” for U.S. Covid-19 deaths to “the nation”. They are the result of millions of individuals individual decisions and the known and unknown factors in the choices made by those decisions. Individuals will face G-d alone (be judged), not as a collective (I believe).
Westboro is no longer identifies as a “Christian” group internally. They renounced the whole Jesus thing according to someone who left the group.
Thank you.
Like I said...I am too dumb.
Westboro Baptist.
And I am too slow to read down.
Coffee!
Thank you.
You gave great explanation.
Sorry I missed that.
Thank you.
Where people get confused is they see black suit Jewish people doing something stupid, they assume they are representative of other black suit Jews.
In reality, there are hundreds of smaller groups, especially among the Haredi. Each little village in Lithuania (mainly) had its own religious leadership. They came here, largely shell shocked and immensely distrustful of the outside world due to the Shoa (and the persecution before that). Each is very insular and very different from even each other.
As a result, some of them have spun off into what can only be described as cults, with beliefs and practices that only vaguely resemble that of other Orthodox Jews and each other.
Anyway, long way of saying just because you see a Jewish guy in a black suit doing something weird, that should not reflect on anything except him or perhaps his little sub-sect.
For the record, Israel is having a real problem with certain Satmar and NK groups over the Wuhan virus.
