Navy Secretary who flew 8,000 miles to smear fired Theodore Roosevelt captain as 'naive' and 'stupid' in furious leaked speech to sailors offers to QUIT - and now Defense Secretary is considering whether to accept it

Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly offered his resignation Tuesday as lawmakers pressured President Donald Trump to take action in the wake of Modly's profanity-laced tirade to the crew of the USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Modly submitted his resignation letter to Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Tuesday after meeting with his him one-on-one, Politico reported. Neither Esper nor the White House pressured Modly to resign, an official told the website, and it is unclear whether Esper will accept it.

Capt. Crozier set into motion a chain of events that can only be described as a cluster f***. He was an idiot. He copied his letter to more than 20 people over unsecured channels. He revealed the lack of battle readiness of one of our most important weapons. China no doubt heard about this before any of us.

Despite all this, Crozier was treated with restraint. He still serves. He wasn't busted in rank. He still has his retirement. But now we are still suffering collateral damage. I hate to say this, but President Trump should not have gotten involved, at least no publicly.

My take on it is... The Captain writing a questionable letter wasn’t a problem had it been kept private. The leak suddenly made higher ups feel they had to take control back.

Then the Admiral chewing him out wouldn’t have been an issue had he kept it private, but he did it publicly.
Hello kettle, meet pot.

The crew saw a Captain who was very much concerned about their personal well being and came to his support.

Just an unfortunate affair all around that certainly could have been handled better by the Officers.

The admirals are all hiding under their desks. It was the acting Navy Secretary, now resigned, that removed the boat captain. Presumably because the Navy brass did not want to be seen as being supportive of POTUS.

Time and again in the “Trump” admin Pentagon we have seen an abdication of leadership and refusal to support their CIC. Contrast that to the subservience shown to the community organizer from Chicago in DOD.

The commanding officer of this WAR SHIP was dead wrong, the Sec. of Navy was right removing him, however flying to Guam and making those remarks on the ship was also not a wise move on his part!! He should have removed the commanding officer and just left it at that!!

The Captain should be court martialed, striped of rank, void his pension, and locked up.

I'm not supporting Captain Crozier. I defer to military command. It's their call.

Modly should have been professional and not profane. While I understand his anger and desire to regain authority he crossed a line he didn't need to cross.

Also the Captain who was relieved of his command. I think if it was any other President then Trump then this Captain would not have handled things the way he did to cause a media shit storm for that PResident.

Why do our Presidents always get the leakers, the back stabbers, the traitors to try and take down one of our Presidents?

Does anyone believe this Captain would have taken this same course of action if it had been Obama? No.

If the military is like academics, and many professions (including medicine), those who wind up in charge or with ‘stature’ are often not the most talented, but are the most self-promoting and the most willing to screw others to gain position.

Since when did we become such pussies that a profanity laced diatribe on an intercom is grounds for any sort of punishment in the military?

Wow. Any strong feelings about this?

I'd guess you don't have any relatives on the Roosevelt. Or ever commanded anything. Or had to write a letter to a parent or a wife about the loss of their loved one.

Must be great to be a bystander.

Gentlemen: Go back to your corners.

Captain, go back to your ship when you recover from the virus.

Modley, return to your office and sulk for a while.

That is all.

This was not an Admiral, it was the acting Secretary of the
Navy, or I guess now the ex-acting Secretary of the Navy.

Problem is, “perfumed princes” are very adept at avoiding
such purges, that is how they become “perfumed princes”.

I’ve heard (from inside sources) the layers between Crozier and Modly were also “hotheads, overly political”, or questionable leaders themselves. Explains a lot.

Still Modly should never be addressing the crew.......nor flying 8000 miles to do so.

Stupid
