USA: More videos by citizen journalists show that in hospitals described by US media as “war zones“ it is in fact still very quiet.

I haven’t turned the TV on for a couple of years. It’s so nice and peaceful. Though I do hang around FR a bit.

The posted video proves what?

It's vastly more credible than the CBS video about “overcrowded stress filled hospitals” in New York, which turned out to be a video that had already been shown on Britain's Sky television as a hospital scene from ITALY!

Visitors are supposed to be banned at hospitals now: which is possibly why no one in waiting areas. Listen to the scanners in NYC seems to be a lot of trouble breathing and “old people not feeling well.” Little anything else, from the hours I listened to this week

Will you excuse me while I laugh?

I spend a fair amount of time on FR or doing cryptograms, etc. My bride and I take walks around the burg, too.

Non-coronavirus admissions are very low; people aren’t driving, so few acidents, and nobody in their right mind would go to the hospital now unless its absolutely necessary to save their life.

You gotta be kidding me.
What are the biggest killers in America by far? Heart disease and cancer (NOT car accidents)
You are not going to tell me people have stopped having heart attacks because they've been locked down at home are you?

Does ‘base rate’ mean the # of cases double every 3 days?

That's what I mean, yes.

If you look at March, we went from 100 cases to ~245,000 cases.

For 31 days, that's an increase of 28.6% a day.

(1.286)3 ~= 2.1

Really? Wow! That's shocking! Next thing you know, we'll be hearing that old people are frequently tired, aren't sleeping well, and are having trouble taking a healthy s**t in the morning! The horror!

We also have a very low census and have seen no increase in suspected and confirmed cases over the past 15 days in our north metro Atlanta hospital. Every day consists of endless Zoom meetings to plan for a surge that to date has not happened.

I consider this to be a good thing as our resources are not being depleted and our community is not suffering greatly like some other parts of this nation.

They still have significant parking lots. I would still expect them to be oacked regardless.

And wouldn’t people in big cities be AVOIDING public transportation knowing that that social distancing is required?

Yes, I know of 3 cases in my neighborhood, ALL MILD, all treating themselves at home like they do when they have the flu. Two already getting better after 10 days.

Why don’t you listen to what the doctors and nurses themselves are saying? My sister is a physician, and she went from being a “FluBro” to deeply concerned as soon as her hospital was flooded with COVID-19 patients.

I've got an idea - how about every one of you people who claim to know someone who has seen this mass chaos at a hospital just simply name the hospital. Then we'll send one of these citizen journalists out there to confirm. That way, we get good information, instead of rumors or unreliable BS and people can start getting an accurate picture of what is happening. That's reasonable, is it not?

I have no idea what to think about this coronavirus thing. My opinion swings like a pendulum, sometimes daily. Weirdest thing for me.

Same for me. I think it is the scale of the thing that is throwing us off. For example, if there were news reports about an outbreak of some disease in Podunk, ID, and we walked around Podunk and saw no evidence of any kind of chaos, we would be comfortable concluding that it was all over-hyped BS. "Hey, there are only about 12 people in the waiting room at the hospital, and half the ambulances are just sitting there doing nothing. This crisis is overblown".

But they are telling us now that this is a GLOBAL pandemic, that major cities all around the world are overwhelmed and in chaos. We have entire countries that are effectively shut down. Government officials are giving news conferences daily on the situation.

If I were to evaluate what I'm being told simply on the information available, I would absolutely conclude that this is all overblown over-hyped BS. But it is the scale of it that gives me pause. The whole world can't be wrong, or lying, can it?

Well, perhaps the idea that it can is the last piece of the puzzle that would allow any of this to make sense.

I think you've hit on something there. One of the things that tended to convince me was what Britain has done. They are not playing around. I watch some of their programming and the dire talking head advertisements come on every break saying "Stay Home", and their call-in shows have had some hair-raising calls from doctors. And then there's Sweden, which has done little.

I wonder if part of it is that we are stuck at home. Electronic communication is great, but is it a full picture without getting out into the world?

I am very much anticipating the hindsight part of this (assuming I'm here to experience it). When we look back on this in six months, a year, five years, it will be oddly fascinating.

Easy. NYC hasn’t sent patients to the ship yet for whatever reason. Keep in mind, COVID-19 patients are *not* supposed to go to the Comfort.

B. Most hospitals (nationwide) are not overwhelmed.

However, in the most affected areas, some hospitals ARE overwhelmed. Pretending this isn’t happening is unhelpful at best and delusional at worst.

It’s in a major southwestern U.S. metropolitan area. No, I am not going to name the hospital, so don’t ask.

Believe whatever you want, idiot. Why the hell would I lie about my sister being a physician? You can take what I said at face value, or leave it—I really don’t care. I was just trying to add an additional data point to the discussion here.

Sheesh, some people...
