The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political respite. No matter what, you wont be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

I do like bread, including making it(when it comes out good) and have always wanted to try challah too.
Let your imagination be your guide.
Tuesday it had dried out enough to till, so I dug 3 25-30 foot potato furrows; plus tilled another 30’ row, where I planted the first 10’ with a packet of Green Arrow peas. Also put some spinach seed in a large planter.
Clouds were still holding off, so I also tilled last year’s failed 15 X 25 potato plot at the far end. While there, I checked on last year’s onion & garlic sets that I just left in the ground, instead of harvesting, because of failure to thrive; they are coming up, so we shall see.
Got rain soon after I finished; then snow Wednesday night, Thursday, and Thursday night; mostly gone now, and sunny, in the 50s. If this holds, as predicted, I’ll be able to finish tilling Monday; no more planting though, for at least a week; then another packet of Green Arrow in the middle 10’ of row; 3rd & last packet a couple of weeks after that.
I know it’s a dirty word, but I often upload to a Facebook post, then open it into a new tab, and use that URL to post it here.
I have a Facebook Account, so I post them over there and copy them over here. If it’s something funny that I just want to share, I link it off the web wherever I find it.
I figure ‘Dorkerberg’ can afford the bandwidth at FB! ;)
Take a look at the ‘HTML Sandbox’ for further instruction on posting photos.
There will be MANY ‘Death to Rabbits’ posts in the coming weeks, LOL!
Rabbit and Squirrel are my two LEAST favorite wild meats...and I’ll eat just about anything, LOL!
Basil and Marigolds in with your tomatoes is a good strategy.
S & P = Salt & Pepper. :)
I think YOU taught me that little trick, LOL! :)
Oooh. Thanks for the tip and the link.
really? Will have to tell my folks that- good suggestion- dill aint a bug’s best friend I’m sure-
Yes, I did; you learned it well.
Nice!
Dill is nummy! I add it to carrots for a side dish, I put it in eggs, stroganoff, piroshki, potato salad, borscht...
I wish I could grow it well.
I have a couple of cinder blocks at the end of one of my tiny planting areas and I plant marigolds in there every year. They usually do very well but in those cinder blocks the soil dries up and you can’t miss any watering days.
They get pretty big sometimes too.
