Trump to speak with sports commissioners today
NBC Sports ^ | 4/04/20 | Michael David Smith

When will it be safe for sports to start back up again? That’s something many millions of fans want to know, and it will be addressed as part of President Trump’s agenda today.

A call with the commissioners of the professional sports leagues has been scheduled for today. The noon entry on Saturday’s official White House schedule says, “The President participates in a phone call with Major League Commissioners.”

The entry does not say which commissioners will be on the call, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell would presumably take part.

So far the NFL has been the least-affected of America’s pro sports by the coronavirus pandemic, simply because the nationwide shutdown is taking place during the NFL’s offseason. But NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills acknowledged this week that the NFL regular season may not be able to go on as planned.

Realistically, America probably still has a significant wait before team sports can be played, for the simple reason that Dr. Sills noted this week: The current protocols say that if one person tests positive, everyone who has been in contact with that one person should self-isolate. And that means it would only take one player, coach or other team personnel to test positive for an entire team - and any teams that have recently played against that team ' to have to go into isolation. It’s just not feasible for a sports league to re-start its schedule right now, knowing that at any moment one person’s positive test would require whole teams to stop playing and practicing.

I've been finding live horseracing on FS1, FS2 and NBCSN. Bet fictitious money, win fictitious prizes.

Heard on sport station while clicking through stations waiting in drive in line at bank that MLB is kinda , sorta maybe trying to find way to play games. Albeit without fans - at least be on TV

I’ve heard some silly ideas about the NHL starting up over the summer and that IMHO is ridiculous. Just cancel the whole thing and start over with training camp in September as usual.

TVG is the primary horse racing channel. Betting through online accounts is ongoing and TV advertising has been geared towards those who may be otherwise unfamiliar with the product.

They are going to have to offer some sort of litigation waiver to businesses so they don’t get sued by everyone who gets sick after visiting one of their venues.

Don’t have TVG. NBCSN seems to go to it often. I’m in a state which doesn’t allow sports betting. Probably better off that way.

If it’s a drastically shortened season I bet MLB tries a bunch of rules changes they have been wanting to implement for a long time. Then the changes never go away when the next season commences.

Maybe one thing they could do is abbreviate the playoff rounds if they get any of this season in. For sure they wouldn’t keep that change.

Trump is always one step ahead. He’s slowly preparing the country for getting back to normal. He’s heading them off at the pass. He knows he’s being sabotaged.

MLB is probably the easiest to start up because there is so little contact among the competitors. The reports I heard a couple of days ago are that they’re looking at an option to hold games with no crowds at a select group of neutral-park sites in small cities with minimal COVID cases.

The Astros are the big winners here. The opposing fans were going to be brutal to them during the games.

He may even recognize something I’ve said for weeks: His initial instincts on this were correct, and this was going to be no worse than a very bad flu season ... and what prompted all the hysteria and panic was when these sports leagues began canceling their events in March.

Pga tour could easily start up. Golfers are isolated for all 18 holes. Have caddies drive carts behind players.

It was the WHO officially calling it a “Pandemic” that made Trump change his policy.

That’s right. And he knows how important sports are to most people. They might not pay attention to what’s happening politically, but they love and pay attention to their sports. Trump is outmaneuvering them.

“He knows he’s being sabotaged.”
“sabotaged” is exactly what is happening to him. No one else could be as strong as DJT in this situation. We are truly blessed with him as the Prez.

Maybe so, but I’m talking about the hysterical public response, not the viral outbreak itself.

You just might be surprised how many people are learning to live without sports.

far more restrictive than they ever were with aids or ebola or sars

and yet the public still is not permitted to review the names of everyone who has this virus to see if they themselves should get tested

if it is this deadly and dangerous, test everyone.
