Wherever you are in the world, I hope you're safe and sound at home. As we all navigate the global COVID-19 crisis, it's important that we're still nourishing ourselves - not just our stomachs, but also our minds, our hearts, and our communities. As my colleague Brinda's grandmother texted her today from Singapore, "Don't get depressed. Sing, play on the piano, read novels, learn knitting and sewing, meditate - all these help."
I don't know if I believe that the simple comforts of cooking will indelibly cure the ailments of today and tomorrow, but I do know that walking into the kitchen to make yourself something to eat no matter your situation and how you feel about it is always a good thing, a nourishing act.
At Food52 we've been sharing our quarantine meals on social media with the hashtag #f52community. We invite you to do the same. What are you cooking right now? And how are you doing?

There are lots of cans on the shelf in my supermarket.
[[I usually get up around 3am anyway, my wife and I take the dog for a walk around the neighborhood,]]
If you’re out in rural areas- be careful of coyotes- carry a big stout walking stick too- and aim for the front legs- as hard as you can- don’t go for the body- it won’t do much good if they are rabid- break the front legs- they won’t be able to move then- sounds cruel, but if an animal has rabies- or some large vicious dog is attacking- it’s no holds barred at that point-
Stay safe-
alton brown is like the scientist of cooking- learned a lot of stuff from his shows, but whenever i try them they don’t work lol
The first night spent during ‘lock down’ we found Alton Brown’s Quarantine kitchen. Most foodies remember AB from the food networks. The first streaming from his kitchen and included his wife.

Weight Watchers will be inundated with real people for their ads once we again carry on with ‘normal life as we know it’.
[[Unfortunately supermarket is out of peanut butter, brown sugar (and regular) , baking soda]]
We’re slowly getting those things back-
My plan is, since downstate city dwellers are coming upstate and cleaning out our store,s spreading their virus everywhere in the process- when the virus dies down down there, we’re gonna go downstate and clean out their stores of toilet paper and food stuff-
j/k- but yeah, city dwellers that have second homes in the country- have completely wiped out our supplies-
i cook every day and continue to do so. lunch was babyback ribs, biscuits, potatoes and peas. Homemade chocolate cake and ice cream. dinner will be light.
stroganoff over noodles yesterday.
Spam cans have the same thing great idea.
Bat soup, hotdogs - the real kind.
I keep a collapsible baton which a lot of police carry, it is made by Smith and Wesson, it fits in your pocket and can’t be seen if you have your shirt untucked...
When deployed it’s about 18 inches long of solid steel...
Crockpot Hawaiian chicken.....with rice or noodles
Spinach lasagne with fresh spinach...( instead of frozen)
Did you read these recipes? OMGosh!
Give me a hamburger please.
Uh, yeah, I don’t think so. Nearly every recipe had some fru-fru thing my grocer doesn’t have and I’m not about to drive around hunting for it. I’ll stick to the pot of beans on right now. A couple weeks ago, I pulled a pork shoulder out of the freezer and made ready to nuke tamales. Had ranch chicken, fried green tomatoes and a roasted onion (bought too many onions) last night and finished the leftovers for brunch. Yep, I’ll stick to whatever is in the fridge, move on to the freezer and work through the canned goods on my last days.
I’d want something longer- to keep as much distance between me and any possible rabid animal- they are crazy- snapping and biting, flipping out- hard to predict what way they will move- The walking stick i use if over 6 feet- it’s my ‘social distancing walking stick’ lol
Thick gooey lasagna on the menu today......
Someone needs to find a way to make powdered beer packs for quarantine meals and other hard times.
Sounds good, I had the bad judgment of giving up red wine for lent, meanwhile my cooking. Her grandmother on her mom’s side was Sicilian, so her cooking is Italian although she’s 75% German and she looks Italian.
I went to the store yesterday and filled four boxes with canned goods for our local town pantry (for charitable giving). Got Chef Boyardee canned items, canned soups, several cans of spam, plus breakfast bars and pop-tarts, packages of assorted cookies, jars of peanut butter, and boxes of crackers! Hope that helps folks locally...........
