Front line report from a friend.
This person is a retired nurse that retired to a southern state. She was informed this Sat. that she was to report to her original state for nursing duties. If she failed to comply she would lose her retirement and be arrested.
Since she reported for duty, she has been working 16hr shifts in full hazmat. She said that her hospital is full of dead bodies, that they are being stacked on pallets and loaded on to freezer trucks that are kept running. She is in a city that is getting overflow from NYC.
She said the virus is far worse than we are being told. She said to not go out, or have contact with people for any reason.
(I'm not a medical person, so forgive the errors.)
Meanwhile, my wife’s hospital is laying people off left and right. She has just had to take a 20% reduction in shift just to keep her job, and she is a supervisor.
I’m told from a VERY reliable source the Navy has not yet begun to recall. Not yet.

I’m an RN and have not been ordered to work in any hot zone. I’ve worked in ICU and Progressive care units. If I didn’t show up for work or accept an assignment, I would be suspended, then perhaps fired. If the hospital failed to provide me with PPE I would have a reasonable argument if they tried to turn me into the state board of nursing.
Not a flubro, because people outside of the susceptible population are getting very sick. However, there are people being treated (if caught early) successfully with Plaquenil plus Zithromax.

This absolutely happened. Her license was in Maryland. She’s in her late 50’s maybe early 60’s. She was given 7 hours to be at the airport. She said it’s like a nightmare.

The DOD did ask for “volunteers” who had recently retired to return, voluntarily. No doctor who has recently retired will want to leave his new practice and be wiped out. There won’t be many volunteers who are still working on an active license. We ran into this during Desert Storm. Guys were brought back and really pissed because they were financially devastated. I suspect they will be looking for people who are not currently seeing patients. At this time to take a resource that is actively engaged in the community and remove it wouldn’t be looked on kindly by the community.
