A 66-year-old Virginia musician and pastor who had questioned coronavirus media coverage died from the disease after a trip to New Orleans.
A 66-year-old Virginia resident who fell ill with the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, on a trip to New Orleans died Wednesday morning at a hospital in Concord, North Carolina. The death of Landon Spradlin, an accomplished musician and a pastor, has drawn viral attention online, in part because earlier this month Spradlin questioned whether media coverage of the disease was overblown.
Spradlin lived in Gretna, a small town in Pittsylvania County, about halfway between Lynchburg and Danville.
While driving home from New Orleans, Spradlin, who had pastored at several different churches over the years, started feeling much worse. He and his wife, Jean Spradlin, stopped in Concord, where he was admitted to a hospital and diagnosed with pneumonia. He was eventually put on a ventilator as his condition worsened before he died.
Because of hospital restrictions, Spradlin's daughter, Judah Strickland, was not able to be with her father before he died. Strickland told WTVD that she'll try to carry on her father's legacy of faith and music.
Some media outlets have noted that Spradlin shared a meme on his Facebook page that compared coronavirus deaths to swine flu deaths. The meme described the reaction to the coronavirus as "mass hysteria"

He was 66.
RIP. This snarky second-tier “journ-o-list” dancing on his grave is NOT appreciated!
Bump.
So, questioning it killed him?

What was his FReeper handle? Sure sounds like a bunch here.
Interesting they point out the profession and beliefs of the few who died who didn’t spout the company line, but they don’t point out the profession and beliefs of the thousands who have recovered who thought the virus was unsurvivable.

Hey!, there's a word the Fake News Media should embrace, disproportionate.
I may die and this is all still an overreaction intended to scare people. The truth will come out.
...Spradlin said he believes the coronavirus "is a real issue, but I believe the media is pumping out fear and doing more harm than good."
I am sorry for the loss.
The actual number of deaths from this are still tremendously lower than the flu at least so far and no one would have posted had he died if the flu.
So his point was valid.
20,000 plus dead from the flu, many healthy and young,
No headlines.
2,000 dead from this, individual deaths get headlines.
A death is almost always a tragedy but he was right at least so far.
They embraced it and then some, during the Israel-Hezbollah war in 2006.
There is all the justification in the world for people to question everything from the MSM and probably 50+% of politicians.
R.I.P Mr. Spradlin.
It appears that the man made his living primarily performing live in front of small to moderate crowds. Performing in NOLA during the pre-lent partying was probably a annual thing, like it is for many blues musicians. He may have made 3x the money during that span than any other time of the year. Giving up on that was possibly one reason why he downplayed the virus threat.
A high school classmate of my oldest son is a country music performer, and she will admit that performing in front of people is a bit of an addiction, that one tends to crave. I’ve seen it with preachers. Some can’t preach the truth, but they can ‘perform’ behind a mic, and develop quite a following
I also suspect that he had other health issues. A former trucking company boss of mine died Sunday of a stroke. No covid. Just dropped dead at the age of 59. A little overweight, but an active guy.
These “journalists” have such a disdain for Christians. I wonder how much about Spradlin is really true. Just a snarky narrative waiting for the appropriate victim to come along, IMHO.
Wow.
South Florida and Louisiana strains are crazy dangerous.
Bad time for a trip, preach. Rest in peace, buddy.
May he rest in peace. We all must keep in mind that God is in charge and that we must not think we know better than Him.
