Top 5 BEST Budget Handguns (You Can ACTUALLY Get) Amidst COVID-19

If you have been spooked by the coronavirus and are looking at purchasing your first firearm, but do not want to break the bank, there are several things that you should keep in mind. Aside from choosing a handgun that is going to be affordable on your wallet, you will want to think of caliber. The Top 5 BEST Budget Handguns we are about to name are all chambered in 9mm. For someone who is a 1st time handgun buyer, it goes without debating that they should purchase a 9mm. The ammunition is typically the cheapest you can get among all the popular semi-auto handgun choices on the market, the self-defense (hollow-point ammunition) available in 9mm is stout enough for defense, and there are exponentially more options available in 9mm than any other possible cartridge out there.

~~~SNIP~~~
TOP 5 BEST BUDGET HANDGUNS – SMITH & WESSON SD9VE 9MM
The Smith & Wesson SD9VE 9mm is the embodiment of what we are looking for. The funky name and acronym for this pistol stands for “Self Defense 9mm Value Enhanced.” It has a simple dis-assembly and maintenance process (it copies a standard Glock) and it has only the bare, essential features someone would need in a home defense or beginner CCW pistol. It also carries 16 Rounds in its 2 magazines you receive and has a semi-attractive look with a Bi-Tone finish. At an MSRP of $389 and often sold for much cheaper than that, it is hard to go wrong with the Smith & Wesson SD9VE 9mm.
Great price, and like you say, you won't be out too much if you dispatch some dastardly thief trying to purloin your TP stash. 😏
I am a 1911 dude. I am not a fan of plastic guns. Or striker fired pistols. But...
1911 devotee also. But...I picked up a Glock 21 about 6 months ago and like it. It fits my hand I and shoot acceptably with it. If it gets scratched up, beaten a little, so what. My stainless Colt Model O isn't going to get rough treatment like that.
I'm not entirely used to the trigger safety on the Glock, having used the thumb and grip safeties on the 1911. IMHO, the Glock is not a beginner's pistol.
I may keep the Glock, we'll see. Different pistols are like golf clubs, each one has a specific use.
I still think the 1911 system is the best for me.
And yes, it annoys me how often I slip that SD9VE into my jeans because it is so damn good, stone cold reliable, light and fast. I can practically hear my quality revolvers, my Colt 38 Super with Mammoth ivory stocks, my sig shaking their heads in disbelief. But when I visualize “what if it was today?” I take it and don’t look back.
The must look at me like a society women seeing her man smile at the waitress.
If you are handgun shopping on a budget, you might want to have a look at the Taurus lineup. Your not going to get the ultra-high quality and precision from your top tier manufacturers. And I wouldn’t treat any of their guns as a future museum piece or take them to a serious shooting competition. But they generally make good (not great) quality firearms at very reasonable prices that are functional and will get the job done. They also back their weapons with a lifetime warranty. I had an old Taurus Model 85 stainless .38 that was basically a knock off J Frame. No frills out of the box with old school wood grips. Never did anything other than clean it and that was one of the best carry weapons I ever owned and I have deeply regretted selling it.
I’m completely convinced Smith won’t put out a Performance center version or one with a truly spectacular trigger because it would quickly outsell the M&P.
Hmmm...my favorite didn’t even rate a mention?
I looked at the SCCP in the article, ended up with a Taurus G2C instead, (9mm) excellent piece. And about $100 less than the Taurus in the article. 1st trip to the range, 1st 10 shots inside a 4 inch circle at 20 yards...not bad...
Lifetime warranty on everything Taurus makes and the online reviews of the G2C are all very good. Mine was $215, usual price around here about $250. So far no complaints at all for a striker rig, I’d recommend it.
But for a 1st time buyer, I think a wheel gun is a better idea till they know how to use it.
Wrong wrong wrong.
What would you recommend, then? Plastic, double-stack, 9mm semi-auto pistols are the 4" .38 Spl. revolvers of our time.
I'd start training a noob on a .22, but for home defense, the above handgun is really the nexus of cost, effectiveness, and simplicity for your average person.
I keep company with a very small group of shooters that regularly practice carbine and handgun tactics. We have been having discussions about all the panic buying going on now, how 99.9% of the buyers are going to make their purchase and then put the gun in a safe or closet or under the bed and never really get practiced with it.
We are particularly talking about the new AR-15 purchaser. In a SHTF scenario, which is more real now than any time in my lifetime, it would be nice to have neighborhood/block squads who are safe and practiced in the handling of their guns. I know I wont be able to do street guard 24/7, and I’d like to know that the other guy out there isn’t slinging his AR for the first time.
I bought my adult son a Taurus G2C a few birthdays ago, he loves it and shoots it well at the range.
Yeah, I always carry my 1911s in condition 1.
But I am still only comfortable with my M&P in condition 3. I am definitely in need of a lot more practice and training before I would carry that pistol with a round in the chamber.
I think you should have several of each so you can form opinions amongst your own arsenal.
I’d recommend a revolver for a first time buyer. Especially if it’s for home or self defense. Find a good quality used .357 for a few hundred bucks.
Much easier to learn with, much easier to shoot, and there’s a huge variety of 38 and 357 ammo to choose from.
I've been wanting a G2C and have heard good things about them. A couple months ago, Palmetto State had them for $179 and they had a $30 mail in rebate.
I have to wait a bit because I just bought a couple 80% Glock 19 kits. Those are addictive.
Taurus Public Defender in .45 long colt/.410 revolver.
Great home defense weapon. Mine is loaded with #6 shot.
