A study on COVID-19 patients in China links high viral load to worse symptoms
Viral load is the amount of a virus inside someone's body during infection
As well as reducing the risk of coronavirus spreading social distancing could make people's symptoms milder if they do get the illness, scientists say.
It can do this by reducing a patient's viral load - the number of particles of the virus they are first infected with.
Having a high viral load gives an infection a 'jump start' and raises the risk of a patient's immune system becoming overloaded in its battle against COVID-19.
People can slash their chances of a massive initial infection by staying away from others who might be ill and by sticking strictly to rules against close personal contact which millions of people around the world are faced with.
Someone infected indirectly by touching a door handle could ultimately end up with milder symptoms than someone who inhales an infected person's cough, experts say.
And this is because it gives the immune system more time to get a handle on the infection before it gets overwhelmed and symptoms start to show.
'In general with respiratory viruses, the outcome of infection whether you get severely ill or only get a mild cold can sometimes be determined by how much virus actually got into your body and started the infection off,' says Professor Wendy Barclay, an infectious diseases expert. .
'Its all about the size of the armies on each side of the battle, a very large virus army is difficult for our immune system's army to fight off.'
The way viruses make people ill is by multiplying rapidly once inside the body and building up in such large numbers that the body takes weeks to destroy them all.

I’ll take his word over yours Everyday, All day.
You’re spreading false and inaccurate information.
Next post and I’m reporting Abuse on you.
Some cough due to sinus drainage. Did sleep well.
1. You did not actually watch, and examine, nor listen to the whole video, obviously, and you took one comment by a reporter as gospel, definitive and end of argument.
2. My nephew’s son who lives in Japan and stayed in Korea for two weeks from end of February into March knows more than you do.
3. I will report your threat as abuse!!
Thanks. I’ll keep up with you regularly if you do not mind.
Do you have covid?
That is the good idea behind vaccination. The bad idea is to fill it with metal adjuvants.
“1. You did not actually watch, and examine, nor listen to the whole video, obviously, and you took one comment by a reporter as gospel, definitive and end of argument.”
You’re Lying -again.
The doctor states quite clearly that “according to the research those who wear masks have a significantly lower chance of getting infected than those who don’t.
Reporting Abuse on you for spreading lies and disinformation.
Also the early days in Wuhan. Sending people home to recover with their families is about as counterproductive as it gets.
“The doctor states quite clearly that according to the research those who wear masks have a significantly lower chance of getting infected than those who dont.”
The same doctor also mentions the kinds of places where infection buy aerosols is rare, and how some age groups are less diligent about protection even when not in those places. He also reports where MOST infections appear to be occurring, which provides context for when wearing masks is most beneficial.
You can interpret the doctors comments as implying “everyone” follows them 24/7/365 regardless of situational context all you want. That is not the reality.

interesting study aerosol vs direct contact viruses in general high temps humidity etc..
Feeling a little better.slept in recliner all morning.
I do not think so. Just got over today’s fever. I don’t want to go out in public and test. We live on camano island and nearest neighbor is 5 acres away. I have been working from home for 3 weeks.
“As a layman this all looks true to me. This is the difference between being smacked with a hammer or a sledge hammer.”
I know, that’s why the medical community is having so much trouble figuring it out - it’s too obvious for their Mensa-minds.
One thing to add though - you can also be hit with a feather (a very light load of Coronavirus) and your immune system will quickly make minced meat of it, long before you have any clue as to what happened.
My theory is, based on the incredibly small particle size of this virus (and thus how many of these virons are out there), is that we’ve all inhaled it - but in such light concentrations that very few of us got sick from it.
So it’s load and time exposed to that load. For health care workers, they have the worst. For us shopping in a near empty market, we have it much better.
My friend has it (caught it when his daughter returned home from college closing, and then she got symptoms, got tested, and he has it now = cant get a test but its clearly covid). I must say your symptoms sound similar. Hes been sick almost a week, just resting at home, like a bad flu, but hes breathing ok. He feels he might be getting slightly better.
Praying you continue to improve.
If you have the wind & strength, walking, or even just being up and moving around in the house is better for the lungs - just like how they try to get you out of bed as soon as possible the hospital. Trying not to lecture, so forgive me if it sounds like that.
They said a mask would make you want to touch your face. But they don't mention not touching your face in their Protect Yourself video. I think the CDC is failing us.
No I agree. I have been snacking on peanut butter/cheese crackers and doing some walking outside on the deck since for a change it is sunny and 50 degrees here right now. I’ve had a history of bronchitis that if I don’t move around it progresses to pneumonia. I am 57 years old.
For the Record:
Send some time, at least 15 minutes per day in the bright sun with as much skin exposed as is comfortable. The sun will produce vitamin d that will go to work on the bronchitis.ditto pneumonia
D3 in daily dosage of sau 5,000 units will also help out
Hang in there KID!!! LOL (I’m 71).
