TOPICS: Chit/Chat
KEYWORDS: todayscryptogram
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

Pretty hard. Common letter, and then the 11th word, eventually opened it up.

I just flailed around until it looked like an actual sentence, then had to look it up to get the first letter of the author’s name, a name unfamiliar to me.

I was able to get this fairly easily. Correctly guessed the common three letter word, and then the last word. Then the first word. Then realized who the author was. Et voila.

Took about 3 min. Got the 3 letter words. Then had to play around on remaining words, and finally got it.

I saw Le Misanthrope on stage last year, so that was not a problem here :-)

Not bad, about 4 minutes. Quick frequency analysis, then let her roll.

2 min - 2 1/2 min.

Still not sure how I got it.

Hmmmm

Again with the picking of a line out of a poem which makes absolutely no (well little) sense without the ‘lead in line’

Sounds like the reporters and editors(??) - or lack of today...<: <: <:

NOT a complaint (with present company) just an observation.

2 minutes. He’s back!

I just wish I understood it. I solve these things finding letter patterns and context. Today was context free.

I guessed the 9th and tenth letters, and that gave me enough to solve, although I guessed the ninth word incorrectly.

That was a little harder than it should have been! I blundered around for a bit before I recognized the name. Then I was good to go.

Same here. 3 letter words and third word and had to just guess around until it worked itself out.
