The Rotterdam Philharmonic teamed up with a Dutch healthcare provider to film the finale of Beethovens 9th with all the musicians playing their parts by video from their homes.
Its an extraordinary achievement, overwhelming in the final minutes.
If ever a video deserved to go viral, this is it.
Share like crazy, please.

Beethoven composed much of his music during the plague if Im not mistaken.

Great stuff!
Did they need a conductor?
And who was doing the chorale?

Beethoven was 100% deaf when he wrote this, and could never hear even a rehearsal of it. In fact he was deaf from age 41 (started at 31) and much of his most famous pieces were written in his head alone. Incredible.

Nicely done! Definitely does this masterpiece the justice it deserves. And what a stark contrast to the wretched, self-indulgent celebrity version of Imagine that made the rounds last week. (Coincidentally, the 9th is streaming on SiriusXM Ch. 76 at this very moment).

Shakespeare wrote King Lear while quarantined during the plague.

Beethovan lived 1770 to 1827 and missed the plague pandemics.

I wonder how they were able to deal with latency issues and synchronize their playing so well.

I wonder how they were able to deal with latency issues and synchronize their playing so well. They synchronized the individual videos after they were made.

In general, what we do is we pre-produce a click-track which the musicians play to. Keep in mind that you have to think about tuning and intonation. Then we put all those videos in sync and work on the sound with professional studio software and equipment.
