The viral load may not be enough to trigger the test...or the test could be faulty, etc.
Bottom line is the fact that he tested negative is not a true reading of whether he had it unless perhaps tested within a day or two of death...and even then there are examples of faulty tests
His family should self quarantine and assume he had it.

Yes, and also people believe it is more age focused than is true due to the earliest demographics of victims. But data-wise, yes, that is what makes WA the outlier.
In my opinion, there are too many cases of being negative in the beginning and turning into positive later to just be the fault of a bad test.
I really think it is more that good ole Wuhan Virus is tricky SOB and your viral load isnt high enough to test positive while the virus continues to wreck your body

It’s going to be interesting to watch Johnson. He can’t go more than a day without appearing on video or people will start to questions whether he is in good enough shape to be running the country.

The person in my family who went down that road had more than a day between death and initial feeling unwell.
