Stomach-Churning Recipe for Bat Soup as Animals Named as Possible Coronavirus Host

Bat soup is a delicacy across China and in Wuhan where the virus originated. While there is no evidence linking it to coronavirus, bats have been identified as creatures that could host the virus

A recipe has been found online for the bat soup after the flying mammals were identified as creatures that could host the deadly coronavirus.

The delicacy, simply titled “bat soup recipe”, gives a list of ingredients and the instructions to cook up the dish from China.

The list includes three or four live fruit bats that are washed but not skinned, water, garlic, ginger, soya sauce and coconut milk.

The website, named “How to trap and cook bats the moral way”, shows a picture of the bat soup which includes a medley of vegetables in a murky broth.

This is done by placing the live animals in a large kettle and bringing the water up to a boil.

While the animals are being cooked alive the recipe instructs to add the various spices and sauces including ginger and garlic.

After the hour is up the cook is advised to remove the bats, skin them and discard the skin.

The meat is to be removed from the bones and added back to the broth ready to be served up with extra toppings of scallions and soy sauce.

Scientists said bats could host the virus, adding that an "unknown intermediate" would also be needed to transmit it from the animals to humans.

Experts suggested bats could host the virus, which has killed 17 people, in a paper published in the China Science Bulletin – admitting the pneumonia-like virus was "underestimated" by the research community.

China has confirmed over 500 cases of the disease and has since quarantined Wuhan as the coronavirus continues to spread.

It is not yet clear how the virus has spread between humans and bats but scientists believe “there may be an unknown intermediate”.

I wouldn’t do that. I guess they do do that to lobsters?

Boil them alive? As they die, they defecate and urinate in the soup. Cruel and disgusting.

Look; first of all, this "delicacy"(ugh!) is probably as old as China itself. Why it suddenly creates a new type of corona virus is puzzling.

Second, the Chinese have accused Americans of creating the virus. Think of it: they're trying to shift responsibility. This is virtually an open admission that the virus is an engineered pathogen. Since it comes from there, we can safely surmise THEY engineered it. Why our leadership doesn't come right out an pin the tail on that donkey defies comprehension.

We need to quit playing the game of blaming Covid-19 on their abominable cuisine and start officially blaming it on their abominable bio-weapons development. To be sure, other powers probably work on such war tactics including us in all likelihood. The difference is that we know how to contain the pathogens we create; they don't. Someone needs to tell the politburo they're simply not good at it and to find a different hobby.

Bats are mammals who have something like 300 viruses within them, yet they never succumb to any of the viruses. Another interesting thing is that their immune system is always turned on, where ours turn on when an invader is detected in the body and turns back off when the invader has been dealt with.

Scientists do not know why their immune system functions as it does.

Don’t they put live lobsters in boiling water? This recipe is putting the poor bats in water and then heating to boiling. A slow horrible death. After reading this and watching video of that meat market it is apparent to me that communism does not teach compassion for either humans or animals.

An English language recipe? I smell a hoax. One problem has been pointed out by another Freeper; placing them alive in the soup means they piss and crap in it on the way out. Another problem is the fact that you generally need to blanch meats for a few minutes to remove gamey aromas. That goes double for wild game.

Lobsters have bacteria that multiply rapidly after death that would be dangerous to humans. Also, unlike bats, lobster have no brains and a very simple nervous system. They apparently feel no pain. Bats also carry dangerous bacteria, but are mammals and do feel pain, except for the Pallid Bat which likes to eat scorpions despite being stung by them.

Which face could you face while it was boiling in your stock pot?

As gross and disgusting eating bats and those markets in general are, I’m still not convinced this virus started this way. These people have been living like this for many moons. I’m sure they get some food poisoning, but I’ll bet they are used to this kind of horrible food. Heck, if this is where it started, why isn’t it happening all the time?
