As a kid, I was grossed out when people popped the fish eyeballs in their mouths.

They were lucky, when I was growing up, my family was so poor that we had to eat the night crawlers we caught to use as bait for trout........

They grow it in cans on a shelf at Walmart.

LOL!

I’ve heard conflicting views on potato eyes. Some say they’re bad for you, and others say they are healthy.

I used to have a friend who cured the tongues of the cattle he slaughtered. When I told my husband about it (he’s generally a fan of anything Meat) he said, “I don’t want to eat anything that can taste me back.”

So was the sheep’s eye in some places we lived. My dad got very good at slight of hand.

When Captain John Smith sailed and mapped the Chesapeake from 1607 to 1609, he reported multitudes of striped bass. He wrote that they ate the heads and salted the bodies in barrels.

Fish cheeks are awesome.

I remember from a James Michener book that the Chesapeake, in the early years of European discovery, is estimated to have produced enough food in it to feed an enormous percentage of the (then) entire world.

The Bay had been declining in recent decades, but seems to be improving now.

To quote Adelle Davis: ‘Which vegetable, grown where?’

Our produce is only as good as the soil in which it is grown.

Vitamin D3, which you can get in bottled vitamins, can help your immune system too. Almost half of all Americans are deficient in it - we just don’t get the amount of Sun that we did in times past.

Thyme is the magic medicinal ingredient in chicken soup, so I’d definitely put thyme in the Salmon Head soup, too. Sounds like it would clear out the chest congestion real good.
Tossing in some potato or rice noodles would make a good chowder.

We put red bell pepper into almost everything. I can barely cook without onions and red bell peppers. Tumeric tea is one of our comfort drinks and we take tumeric capsules daily.
