Alpharetta Police said a man pulled a gun on a woman and her granddaughter at a post office because he thought they were going to give him coronavirus.

Police said the incident happened Monday afternoon at the post office on Webb Bridge Road. The victims told police they were both wearing medical masks and gloves when they walked in to the building.

Police said Harvey Taratoot, 75, pointed a gun at them and yelled at them to get back. Taratoot then left the building and drove away.

One of the victims was able to get his license plate number. Officers went to Taratoot's home and arrested him. He's been charged with pointing a gun at another.

Taratoot told officers he was afraid of catching the deadly virus.

“Folks, this was such an overreaction on the part of the suspect,” police said. “Please do not allow fear to overcome your logic while we’re going through this. This could have certainly ended with tragic results for everyone involved.”

I’d like to see proof of this. If he did it, charge him accordingly.

Yep. Not even in your car. Need to park somewhere off of the lot and off of federal property there, lock it up in the car, then walk into the P.O.

There is/was a Postal regulation about concealed carry in “their” parking lot.

I went down the InterWebs rabbit hole and got as far as a brief to SCOTUS.
The case citation is bonidy vs usps.

As far as I’m concerned if I’m not going through a metal detector, with armed guards, then my security is up to me.

This is an extreme case, but the paranoia many have is real and will have lasting effects. Social distancing, cancelling of most all sports, esp. for kids, is likely to stay for a long time unless people learn to live with a virus that has a very small death rate (an est. 80% need no medical help, and with a death rate of about 1.3% for those who tested positive, which is a fraction of those estimated to be infected).
