As President Trump has said, Cuomo had an opportunity to purchase 15K ventilators in 2015. Cuomo chose sanctuary city stuff instead.

Cuomo is a hysteric. Trump is a leader. And yes, for those who didn’t cheat at 15 days time out, people can get back to work, in small groups. And then larger.

“We close the stores? Can you imagine the riots?”

Kaila, that’s what I’m saying, no one likes the shutterings.

What I’m saying is that if you can’t slow the spread, if you can’t maintain and provide care for people who get sick, if you can’t provide a reasonable amount of protection for these people we are calling “critical infrastructure,” like grocery store workers, truck drivers, warehouse workers, and nurses, then closed stores, closed hospitals, and riots is exactly what you are going to have.

They test everyone who shows up sick.

you’re little wheel is irrelevant. Low deaths are due to travel restrictions, mandatory quarantines and lockdowns. H1N1 has no such controls (but travel restrictions Jan/Feb could be significant in reducing h1n1 also)

I am not as worried about it as you are, because at some point he would _have_ to open up the economy a little bit.

There are actually advantages to doing it earlier.

Let us say he froze everything for six months (Sept. 15). At that point everybody is broke and screaming to open up the economy, and with the slow bleed about 10% of the population has the virus, or has been through it.

Exponential growth says it will explode through the population in a matter of a couple of weeks. By the time anybody figured out what had happened the entire health care system would collapse—early to mid-October.

See the problem?

The longer you wait the harder it is to stop in time the next time...

Right now we are only at 1% or 2% tops. If you “let it ride” for a few weeks you can get it up to 10% and then stop, and let it slow leak to higher numbers.

Anyway, I suspect that is how some experts are viewing it.

This is ugly either way—the only options leaders have is timing.

China is opening up. Wuhan in one week. Items will be ramped up. What our country will most likely do is bring manufacturing back to the US because now we have seen what outsourcing has done.
Some sectors will suffer, but it will come back. The longer we close, the harder a recovery will be.
High risk people need to self isolate for a few more months.
A young 20- 50 something can return to work if they want to.

You are so wrong here. I would love to be able to handle all this from a capitalist perspective but that horse has left the barn when we left the borders open.

First of all my husband is a business owner, he just found out he cannot shut down because he is an “essential business”. He could quit, we can afford that, but that leaves 50+ other people without jobs. He won’t do that to them.

Second, none of these employees are allowed to wear PPE despite my husband having stocked it for them because the corporation says “no”. The healthcare system, administrators, and CDC did not do their jobs and stock it for their healthcare workers, so we all have to do the good communist thing and share the risk.

So, my husband puts himself at risk and lives in a camper in our driveway in order not to put his elderly father at risk. Healthcare workers all over the country are in much worse situations, and are front lines of a war that half the country is arguing does not exist.

Finally, my son has no choice but to go to work every day at a hospital, in and out of hospital rooms, and was just exposed to cv through a coworker. He would love to stay home, but cannot quit, he does not have the means. He knows we can only carry him so far. His company will not close until the governor says so.

There are a lot of people who will lose their jobs if choose to stay home to protect their grandma, or themselves, and a lot of companies who cannot or will not shutdown without some directive from the governor or mayor.

So all your talk about “choices” really falls apart out here in the real world. There is very little choice for people to go to work or stay home. As much as you’d like there to be that cut and dried world, it is a lot messier than that.

““Didn’t LA simply stop testing?”

I don’t know if they stopped testing, but the stopped selling guns. Who was rushing out this week to buy a gun in a gun store? It wasn’t criminals, they buy them on the black market, they can’t buy them in gun stores, anyway.

Your family has a choice to work or not. It is called quitting their job. They have not quit, because they need the money.
You want to take away choice from everyone else.

“China is opening up.”

Kaila, China is locked down to a degree we could never tolerate.

And they are not exactly what you would call Christian about it, they shoot their wounded.

cgbg,

I thought that would start this week but Trump seems to rethinking it. See Figure 4 of the Imperial College London study you linked and their discussion of that option.

For those who don't want to read that, the idea is to have multiple cycles of two weeks of lockdown followed by four weeks of everybody back to work except seniors who stay locked up, until either an effective cure is found or herd immunity in the general population kicks in. That seemed to be the least bad solution.

Note that the American lockdown period in this scenario would have national effect, be mandated by the federal government and, from what I could tell, be enforced by a prohibition on distribution of gasoline and diesel fuel to commercial gas stations. DHS emails to some telco employees and big grocery chain staff last week told them that they and their companies would be guaranteed fuel during that period. I surmised that they'd get the fuel from cardlock stations or fuel points in enclosed, secured, company yards.

Trump appears to now think the economic and financial damage from this will be too great. It's possible that he also thinks that a federally mandated lockdown of the whole country would be too difficult to enforce.

In any event, this scenario now seems unlikely. I have no idea what might replace it.

"Every country in the world is going to stop-start-stop-start-stop-start etc until a vaccination or meds are up to speed and up to scale."

A 100% case fatality rate, for example, doesn’t mean 100% of the people who get infected dies. It means 100% of the people who get infected AND get sick, wind up dying.

This is why this 4% number for Corona is BS as many people get infected and don’t get sick. This is what makes it just the flu, bro, from a death perspective.

China can open up—for a month or two.

Then when the dead bodies are blocking all the streets they will shut down again....

There is no way China can get anywhere near back to normal this year.

It cannot happen, no matter what their leaders want.

For your consideration...

Episode Info

Dr. Francis Boyle discusses the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China and the Biosafety Level 4 laboratory (BSL-4) from which he believes the infectious disease escaped. He believes the virus is potentially lethal and an offensive biological warfare weapon or dual-use biowarfare weapons agent genetically modified with gain of function properties, which is why the Chinese […]

Dr. Francis Boyle Creator Of BioWeapons Act Says Coronavirus Is Biological Warfare Weapon

And also this excerpt from the article >>>

As the author J.R. Nyquist puts it:

We must have an investigation of the outbreak in Wuhan. The Chinese must grant the world total transparency. The truth must come out. If Chinese officials are innocent, they have nothing to hide. If they are guilty, they will refuse to cooperate.

The real concern here is whether the rest of the world has the courage to demand a real and thorough investigation. We need to be fearless in this demand and not allow “economic interests” to play a coy and dishonest game of denial. We need an honest inquiry. We need it now.

This repeated for emphasis >>>

If Chinese officials are innocent, they have nothing to hide. If they are guilty, they will refuse to cooperate.

Well under 1% of the population has been exposed. Well, that was true until recently and I think it still is. Of the exposed people, the weak die off fast and the rest who get a serious case - or even just a mild case, sometimes - linger a while, and some of them also die.

Deaths will continue, like in South Korea, for weeks or even months even if there is not a single additional exposure.

And, yes, treatment might invalidate that statement in large part, but even the HCQ+AZT treatment won’t save you if you’re too far gone.
