“By “unchecked”, I mean what will happen if you open things back up and let people go back to work.”

I pray that in 100 years when historians write about this pandemic that their primary theme is not, “The United States was the modern nation least prepared for this pandemic physically, emotionally, culturally, and spiritually.”

If you substitute the numbers for “people that have been exposed to …” in each case, that tiny blue slice becomes proportionately much smaller. For the graphically challenged that means that more people die from CCP-19 than from the flu on a per case basis.

Are you proposing we give CCP-19 equal exposure in the general population? Dangerous Disease Affirmative Action?

No Dangerous Disease Affirmative Action!

Those two need to spend 15 days in the public stocks with a basket of rotten tomatoes nearby.

Nobody is taking away their choice.

They don’t want to go to work any more than you do.

You’re self isolated, remember?

Your ‘choice’ is as much ‘choice’ as elections in PRC.

And stop scolding the peasants for being scared. If you weren’t scared too you’d be out and about.

You would have to quarantine for months to flatten the curve.

Disagree. A few weeks makes a big difference.

Vaccines will take 18 months.

12 mos. more or less.

Treatments ?

Hydroxychloroquine, combined with the antibiotic azithromycin, for one.

Herd immunity only if the young go back to work.

Plenty enough transmission taking place now for heard immunity to develop.

Trump had a purchase order for ventilators showing Cuomo refused to order any.

Any decent variable analysis should incorporate at minimum a range of at least three options. For example, low, medium & high and so on.

In terms of actual CV mortality drop-off - either here or in Italy - this would translate into (at least) three possible explanations:

1. Social distancing restricted/eliminated a potential population for the virus to (exponentially) grow into;

2. Herd/youth immunity is beginning to develop - among certain sectors - which serves to decouple fatals from actual gross numbers of infected;

3. Actual population limits have been reached ie there's no more there there for the virus to (exponentially) grow.

Case #1 may be true for the US - starting with the jump start on Friday the 13th - but I think Italy may have acted too late, and might actually be experiencing #3.

Case #2 is obviously the most favorable outcome. It's the one that I believe Trump is attempting in order to "thread the needle". That is, modified/amended emergency 15 day order that maintains/alters a few things:

- keeps children from large groups aka school
- allows the main work force of adults to get back in the saddle again
- keeps older and at risk in isolation

If it turns out #2 is not valid, and that we only had a close call because of imposing #1, then that will be obviously closely monitored.

When this event is over, the analysts will be able to determine if the US actually experienced #3 (ie CV had been present since Dec 2019), but due to a number of factors we didn't have a similar experience as Italy. (Age, life styles, living conditions, health system, etc.)

Wow, sounds like you have something against people who have money.
Very un freeper like, if you ask me.
Those employees at Walmart, Kroger and Target are still working because they are considered essential. I do not see them quitting. They can if they want to, and someone else will take their jobs.
It is called capitalism.

I think there are still people that really don’t see what a game changer this virus is. They think, let it burn through, like H1N1 with the economy intact.

They haven’t been following it like we have. There is no way they will get it until, God forbid, family members start dropping dead.

It’s the crony cap element. All they want to do is make currency. They dont care about money or actual value.

“Cuz ‘get back to work peasants, my portfolio is suffering!”

Jeff Bezos need to spend some time working in the warehouses and making deliveries. All corporate executives should head out to their stores and get to work in the most exposed roles.

Because it’s patriotic. This is America. We all need to pull together, and the leaders of industry, who benefit the most from our American way of life, need to lead the way and set the example.

Put their kids on the front line, too.

“Those employees at Walmart, Kroger and Target are still working because they are considered essential.”

If you are an executive for one of these companies, or you serve not the board, you need to get into the stores and get to work. It’s your patriotic, American duty to lead the way. We will even let you have a mask.

Cuomo was just as late or later than Trump was to wake up and smell the CV coffee.

Basically, Cuomo is being sent the ventilators he previously turned down. Not to blame him as the rest of the nation’s leaders probably dismissed the initial offer as well.

“If we get it and it mutates we get it again just like the flu each year.”

Sort of. The flu has many strains, some give you some immunity to others, some not. That (and vaccines) is why only a 5th or so of the population catches it in any given year.

This has only 2 strains, so far. The doctor I know in the mitigation effort says it is not guaranteed that one will grant you immunity to the other.

The overall morbidity/hospitalization rate is what makes me wonder if this virus was created.

For the same reason NATO adjusted their caliber.

Before that caliber change you either got shot and probably died, or you didn’t get shot and probably lived.

After, if you got shot you probably lived but with MUCH expended effort by your own people to make that so.

This virus isn’t a population reducer.

It’s a health care system destroyer.

Even if you triage your resources to the 60 and under group you’ll still have a LOT of your prime earning age range down for the count with this.

And your hospitals won’t be doing much of anything else for a long time.

That lawyer in NY that seems to have been a super spreader spent 3 weeks in the ICU IIRC. What is that kind of bill going to do to his finances and him already 50ish? He’ll never be able to retire. Or, he’ll declare bankruptcy and we’ll ALL pay for that.

And it’ll be months before he’s ‘up and at ‘em’ again.
