An Italian priest infected with coronavirus gave up a respirator his parishioners bought for him to a younger patient — and then died from the deadly bug, according to reports.

The Rev. Giuseppe Berardelli, 72, refused to take the respirator while in a hospital after finding out the other patient — who was a complete stranger — also needed it, according to the BBC.

The main priest in the town of Casnigo died last week in Lovere hospital, the broadcaster said, citing hospital officials.

He was one of at least 60 priests who died in Italy this month

“He was one of at least 60 priests who died in Italy this month”

Also indicator that the average age of priests maybe above 60.

You must not be Catholic. The average age of Catholic priests in most places is up there. It’s rare you encounter a young one.

Truly a man of God. I don’t know if it was the same priest but someone sent me an article about the overcrowded Italian hospitals due to covid-19. There was a priest who was holding the patients’ hands and giving hope to the doctors. He also succumbed to the coronavirus and the doctors were devastated.

I read that during the very early days of Christianity there was a plague, I think in Rome. The early Christians distinguished themselves by ministering to their neighbors out of love, even to pagan Romans. Some of the Christians died themselves doing this but it helped fuel the growth of Christianity at that time.
