Will the coronavirus outbreak be stopped by the warm spring weather? Here’s what 5 experts say.

Spring will officially arrive Thursday night, when the vernal equinox occurs, ushering in a wave of warm and humid weather that could help snuff out the deadly coronavirus. Right?

Well, that’s been a popular theory making its rounds ever since COVID-19 swept into the United States and turned our daily routines upside down. But is that premise accurate? Will the warm spring and hot summer temperatures actually stop the coronavirus in its tracks — the same way the seasonal flu fades out when the weather turns warm?

Here’s what experts from five different health agencies and medical schools say.

1. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

In short, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the jury is still out on this question — mainly because this particular virus is so new.

“It is not yet known whether weather and temperature impact the spread of COVID-19,” the CDC says on its website. “Some other viruses, like the common cold and flu, spread more during cold weather months but that does not mean it is impossible to become sick with these viruses during other months. At this time, it is not known whether the spread of COVID-19 will decrease when weather becomes warmer. There is much more to learn about the transmissibility, severity, and other features associated with COVID-19 and investigations are ongoing.”

2. World Health Organization Dr. Maria van Kerkhove, an infectious disease epidemiologist who advises the World Health Organization (WHO) on the coronavirus outbreak, said it’s too early to know the impact of warm temperatures on COVID-19. At a WHO press conference earlier this month, she said this:

“We have no reason to believe that this virus would behave differently in different temperatures,

There’s no reason to believe that the new virus will be different from the others. Heat and sunlight should do it in, if people can calm down and give other people some space. What aren’t the latest couple of generations going for walks or gardening?

Yes, all viruses get destroyed by warm weather. The article quotes CDC and WHO which leads me to an automatic rejection of the article. Experts know that white blood cells are the destroyers of viruses and that weak people lack the white blood cells they need to destroy heavy duty viruses. That’s whey isolation is recommended by politicians. America will bounce back soon enough. Then a big party.

The Nelson Hayes Library in Bangkok just sent me an email saying that they are shutting down until April 15 due to the spike in Coronavirus cases in Thailand.

I’d say that blows the hot humid weather theory to hell. The hottest months in Thailand are March and April, and it’s plenty humid, too, although the rains won’t come until May.

I heard somewhere that flu season is in the winter because aerosol droplets from an infected person’s cough or sneeze travel farther in the air when in colder weather as opposed to warmer, more humid air thereby decreasing transmission rates. Hopefully they also don’t stay airborne as long but that is my speculation. If so this virus should be no different than any others.

It may not be warming but sunlight.

People will be outside. Ultraviolet light acts as a disinfectant.

Hospitals are already using ultraviolet light to sanitize masks and equipment.

Sunlight IS a disinfectant.
