San Francisco Bay Area "Shelter In Place" - In the trenches
Various | March 22, 2020 | ProtectOurFreedome

I've been monitoring a lot of local San Francisco Bay Area boards for what people are doing during the "Shelter In Place" order. Turns out the outdoor trails are full with crowds not seen in years. It's like people are treating this as an unexpected paid holiday. Here is a sampling of what I've found...

Nope, Idaho is no good.

The country club in our Idaho neighborhood has a nice satellite restaurant and bar building with a couple of golf simulators. Excellent food and friendly people. Less than a quarter mile from our house. We go there once a week.

Day before yesterday (Friday) it went to take-out and patio service only.

It was shut down completely yesterday (Saturday) because the Public Health Service notified the club that a patron on March 11 has COVID-19! My wife ate there when she got in town last Weds, about six days after the sick patron was there.

Until last week, Idaho had zero cases. Now there was one right down the street where we eat.

Talk about ironies! Here I am in Silicon Valley and the nearest cases I know of are at the hospitals two to three miles away!

There are three major reservoirs in Maryland. They closed them to hiking, kayaking, horseback and fishing.

So, millions of people are out of work with uncertainty. Who knows how long unemployment checks are going to take to start processing. Many of them may be looking for alternative sources of food.

the population density in Idaho versus Silicon Valley is protective. Go!

Our reservoirs are generally off limits anyway (for security reasons); I suspect any that were accessible before (as part of state parks) are still accessible.

I suspect it is much safer to have people out in the woods with their “quarantine roommates” than in dense neighborhoods - though they should probably close picnic areas where people would be on top of each other.

Kootenai County - 110 / sq mile
Santa Clara County - 1,400 / sq mile

Hmmm...you may be right. ;>)

Unfortunately, family reasons keep one of us in California.

“restless” — indeed. Imagine in 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 weeks.

” most beautiful city “

I’ve never understood why people say that. Seems ordinary to me. I’ve always lived near the west coast.

I miss sunshine. I’m sick of weather and grey skies.

Even in North Idaho not far from Canada the sun is shining. The nets went up a couple days ago on the pickleball and tennis courts. The golf course opened today, but with new Coronavirus Rules -- balls don't go into the hole, just touch the foam collar on the stick. Everything you can touch is put away - ball washers, bunker rakes, no towels, no garbage bins, no water stations, no sand & feed containers, no course restrooms, no food service. Single riders in golf carts unless you live under the same roof.

The new "COVID Golf" rulebook.

you know, I would love to be able to sit at home and work on my computer...but somehow, being a nurse, you don't get that privilege...its fine and dandy that some can take it easy during this "crisis" but many of us STILL have to work to keep this country going .

essential workers don't get the luxury of staying home...

A few days ago the temps were mid 70’s, and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park was packed like it was the middle of July. Folks enjoying the great outdoors. Probably lots of college students from Knoxville with free time now. And maybe plenty of laid-off east Tennessee workers wanting to relax in the beautiful mountains.
