What are you doing about COVID-19?
Vanity? ^ | 3/21/20 | Self

Posted on 03/22/2020 9:04:22 AM PDT by umgud

I'm 68 y/o, not in bad shape, but not excellent, have historical issues. I live in CA (central valley).

Bottom line: I'm not convinced I'll contract COVID, but I do believe I won't survive it if I do.

This has me getting my life in order, in my case, a herculean effort to get it done before possible contraction. Need to brush up my will, personal finances, administration..........then there are physical assets, misc. deals I'm working on. It's a huge job and I must get it done quickly.

Lastly, I'm going to show my daughter how to give FR updates and if necessary, notice of my death.

Most of our friends believe they have already had it. And whatever it was it didn't kill them

Ditto. Never get sick but first week in February I was scary sick. Missed a little work for the first time since 2006. Last time I missed work was because an illegal driver tried to kill me.

Leave your 401k where it is as soon as this virus is done your 401k will bullet back to the top!!!

I would say though make sure you have enough cash on hand for one year, if possible.

The only thing that has changed in my life is that church is closed.
Still going to work. I do not work in a crowded environment.
Shopping is a waste of time since the stores are empty.
Expanding the garden.

We’re 70-ish, and not doing much different than any other time since we don’t do much running around normally.

Hubby volunteers at a hospital and was looking forward to doing that next week, but all volunteers were told not to come in until further notice. I suppose it has to do with possible liability in relation to WuFlu.

He does astrophotograpy and researches that all day long. I do quilting and play piano.

Watched our preacher give a video sermon today. Weird.

My balances have gone down to us using it last year in buying new home. They keep saying, stay the course it will bounce back but that was two weeks ago. Hubby and I both retired, husband on medial disability for few years (spine issues and rods in his spine, spine detiorating, etc) I had a job lined up for part-time and then corona hit and they are delaying the position for a few weeks.

I will continue to be patient and wait and see.

Your post made me think of the Jimmy Buffet song. I hope to be following La Vie Dansante again soon. But of course all we get is one day at a time.

I recently retired also I was going to work until I was 70 but my 401k was doing so well I decided in January to retire at 66 then BOOM my 401k has been devastated, I also decided to get a part time job that paid VERY WELL got hired and now that is not happening either, I am leaving my 401k in place I believe it will come roaring back our economy doesn’t need any more panic movement especially from us WE are the ones with whatever common sense is left in this country!! YES for the next couple of months things are going to be rough but we will come out of this just fine!! I do have to be honest with you however before I retired I paid off every debt I had for the first time in my life I am completely debt free and even through this I will NEVER have another debt again NEVER!! The feeling of freedom after having no debt has been exhilarating!!!!

I am really enjoying reading the replies to the “What is everybody doing...” question. Yours was well placed. Thanks.

I’ve worked from home for 3 years, so little has changed - except the kids being home 24/7 (they’ve done home schooling before, so that’s not too odd) and m’lady not constantly eager to race off somewhere. I’m about the only one to go out, and that with focused goals (milk, bread, small supplies) and appropriate paranoia (take Clorox wipe with me, don’t use store baskets, etc).

Introvert’s dream.

I have already given my younger sister my FR password with instructions how to post in the event of my demise.

I don’t expect to get sick, but I am in the “category”.

All my other stuff is in order.

And I’m not the least bit worried...more inconvenienced than anything else.

While it was only about 37 degrees today, myself and 5 other retirees went to the park for some softball batting practice......

Stalking around my hovel with a baseball bat. Anything that looks like it might be a virus gets popped — but good.

Same here but used my shotgun. Not sure I made the right choice tho. I don't know what's worse, getting sick or patching all the holes in the walls and floors........

Folks posting death percentage by age groups best stop. FR by the look of these posts might be in for herd thinning...

Personally, I’m working everyday and loving this slowdown/shutdown - little to no traffic..
