As of Saturday, Louisiana was reporting nearly 600 confirmed cases of COVID-19, one of the highest numbers in the country. Sixteen people had died. The majority of cases are in New Orleans, which now has one confirmed case for every 1,000 residents. New Orleans had held Mardi Gras celebrations just two weeks before its first patient, with more than a million revelers on its streets.

From everything I have seen, covid-19 is mainly life threatening for those who have bad lungs, are very old and in bad shape, or have advanced diabetes/heart disease/kidney disease/cancer with chemotherapy.
Above category of people are perhaps 20% of Americans, I am guessing. Covid-19 is very risky for them. People in good health and under Medicare age will win over the cobid-19 similar to coming down with influenza and recovering.
Therefore the most effective method of fighting the new virus at this stage is prevent the risky group from being exposed to any others. That is difficult when a family has old and young people who are not staying home.
NOLA humidity makes it hard to breath , period. Worse in summer. There is no thicker air anywhere, imho.
Nothing really new here - the lung damage this virus can cause is WHY we’re shutting down the world.
The infuriating part is that the majority of the people that get it never progress to lung damage - only that once it’s in the lungs all bets are off and the damage is the same young or old, healthy or not.
You will not get that information in the US.
I try to avoid the regular flu. I dont need stats to make me want to avoid this one.
Here is what I would ask at any state and local press conference regarding Kung Flu:
1. Of the number of new positive tests you reported, how many were admitted to the hospital?
2. Of those admitted for treatment, how many required placement in the ICU or required similar significant medical intervention?
3. Of those requiring ICU or significant medical intervention, can you provide us generally with demographic or health information regarding their age and whether or not they also have underlying health conditions, particularly those related to pulmonary issues or compromised immune systems?
Nobody is asking those questions. I would like to know the answers.
And just over 200 recovered! of every 7 resolved cases, only 2 are dead. That’s awesome!
I saw a post on DU from some 70 something moron with COPD who was threatening to sue Donald Trump if he got the corona virus. Of course we all know what causes COPD (hint - it’s entirely self inflicted).
...and is known to routinely put out the most disgusting Maoist cr@p.
Okay, so the alternative is destroying our economy and becoming a satellite socialist state. Is COVID-19 dangerous enough to merit this ?
I certainly dont think so, however I do think we should deport all Chinese nationals and ban further entry until their government can demonstrate they can be trusted to prevent the spread of contagious diseases.
There is some DJ from NOLA that had a fever on the 9th, said he had pneumonia not flu on the 11th..and now dead
Beautiful day on the FL beaches today!!
> Yet another article with anecdotal, flamboyant rhetoric and no data. Heres data. Germany 22k cases, 84 deaths.
22000/84= 0.3%

Antidotal stories of severity are even less reliable than antidotal evidence of treatments.
The Left wing group Pro-Publica originally published this. Look up their supporters and you see the same Leftists that support the Clinton Foundation.
Do not believe anything you read until you check the source. Being gullible is not a virtue.
As an ICU RN working with RT’s I certainly won’t put any stock into your opinion.
Now the source of publication for this story is suspect.
Now, RT’s have to be licensed and highly trained; they can take orders directly from physicians and are tested and licensed. Yes the settings he cites are plausible for patients of this nature and often at this stage they are in renal failure at this point and a put on continuous dialysis and are on pressors to try and maintain a stable central of pressure. When a patient reaches this state, it’s maybe 10 to 20 per cent that he will make it but age and co-morbities are also a factor.
Often at this stage we completely paralyze them with Nimbex to let the machines completely breathe for them and to allow maximum tissue o2/co2 exchange while we try to buy the time to allow for a turn around and healing. RT’s are very important in this process. I cry foul that you dismiss RT’s out of hand!
Certainly Soros and this publication can go to the blazes, however!
Many beaches are closed. And the ones open have restrictions.
And I bet you are also pissed off DeSantis isn’t locking down the state with shelter in place orders that we dont have the resources to enforce.
No one is stopping you from “sheltering in place” buddy. If you feel safer doing that, do it! But this isn’t China. We are not going to weld people in their houses.
OK, I know this is probably futile, but listen closely: Do you really think this nurse, and the many, many other healthcare professionals who are shouting the same warnings have never before treated an 80-year-old in an emergency situation? When this nurse is saying that shes never seen anything like this before, can you grasp the fact that what she means is that shes never seen anything like this before? Its really simple, but the just the flu scoffers just ignore everything and shove their heads firmly in the sand.
Here in the Upper peninsula of MI medical clinics are cancelling appointments and slowing down the amount of people coming into the medical clinic. my monthly allergy shots were cancelled until further notice. I called the doctor (allergist) and he called the medical clinic and said the shots cannot be cancelled. Now I have to through the hospitals outpatient clinic to get the shots.
