With influenza increasing in our area and the threat of CV-19, we have initiated a sterilization protocol for when we have to re-enter our home from outside trips.

I always, virus or not, spray kitchen counters, cutting boards, etc. with a bleach solution. Plenty of bugs in raw chicken to require this, so I just made it a habit for all things years ago.

Same here for decades...only have to have had or witnessed food poisoning once to make that routine.

Don’t forget to take your shoes off and spray the bottoms with sanitizer (Lysol) to not introduce and keep the crud out of your living spaces.

Tomorrow I begin a process of boiling every piece of clothing I own for four hours. I'll repeat this every 48 hours until my gas gets shut off or I die of heat exposure.

"No Nitrile gloves in your protocol?"

We tried them at first. Found they are inconvenient and the alcohol/purell is easier to manage. Plus, if you don't take the gloves off just right, you can contaminate your hands. Yes, I know you pull them off from the wrist lip, but that can also be contaminated.

Thanks for mentioning booze. Lots of stores are out Purell and even rubbing alcohol. It depends on the content of the alcohol or "proof" on the label. I've read 80% proof is better than nothing.

Sterilization refers to any process that eliminates, removes, kills, or deactivates all forms of life (in particular referring to microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, spores, unicellular eukaryotic organisms such as Plasmodium, etc.

Since we can't apply aseptic technique, I guess the above will have to do. Thanks for being the thread word cop.

I use gloves when out, and the groceries also go in the sink if they can be washed with soapy water.

If they can’t, the non-perishables are put off to the side for several days to decontaminate. The virus can only last so long.

I do take sanitizing wipes and wipe down the car, the doorknobs, and anything else I may have touched.

Then I peel the gloves off and throw them out and wash my hands and then disinfect the sink area.

I have been rotating through my coats, so that they can also disinfect with time.

Hmmmm....our county has 8 cases...and I’m careful, but I still ask..if everything is so contagious...why are delivery people dropping like flies, and those handling packages elsewhere?

According to a poster above, you must me “scared” to death to take such precautions. Don’t know where you live, but in our area it is really a bad cold/flu season. I commend you on your efforts.
