The number of fatalities there hit 3,405 yesterday, the highest in the world, despite the valiant efforts of shattered doctors to keep the ailing victims of the virus alive. A shocking Sky News report showed the hectic scenes inside the Papa Giovanni XXII hospital in the crisis-hit area of Bergamo in Lombardy, with staff rushing through wards with beds full of patients in distress.

Personally I would like JimRob like during the 2016 election institute a real liberal timeout and (or) ban for posters who suffer from this personalty disorder. It's just not very educative to have to winnow through endless arguments by pearl clutchers who really just need their mommy and a warm blankey. Posting news that maybe looks grim and engaging in healthy debate with logic and facts is awesome. Just emoting by spamming thread after thread with debunked articles, charts and graphs and then insulting people when they don't see it your way....not productive.
I work professionally as a civil engineer, and I specialize in the planning and design of transportation infrastructure. If you tell me there are 100 fatalities in motor vehicle crashes in this country every day and you want to eliminate them, or at least reduce them by 95%, and you ask me how to do it, I’m going to give you a simple answer that will solve the problem entirely: OUTLAW MOTOR VEHICLES.
Now if you give me the same scenario and tell me that you want to reduce the normal fatality rate by 5% every year for the next ten years, I’m going to give you a much more reasonable and practical set of recommendations that aren’t preposterous on their face.
This is what is happening with all these medical professionals who are advising our political leaders. Are you noticing a pattern in the answers they give in these press briefings? Almost every answer is basically a variation of one of the following:
1. “We don’t know for certain.”
2. “Without any certainty we recommend extreme caution.”
That’s exactly what is happening here. They are medical professionals. They will never even declare an “end” to this viral outbreak until a vaccine is developed that is 100% effective.
I ain’t denying it exists or it’s life threatening, I’m denying that just the Chinese were involved in spreading it. I think it was the Chinese working with the Treason party solely to harm Trump. Why was this guy from Harvard for example involved with a lab in Wuhan? Why is Nancy Pelosi quiet as a mouse lately?

Having surpassed China in number of deaths etc. it’s no wonder the Dr’s and staff are beyond exhausted....Italy is in the heat of this war and their patients reflect the sad state of those bombarded with the virus.
However, during WW1 I believe,.. they knew the epidemic then was spreading to communities as sick troops were moved to different locations.

You are not crazy...I believe the same...CIA is the other party.
Death is never pleasant. In fact is an offense to the soul. However, we will all die and we have no genuine control over the timing and cause of our deaths. Of course the Italian doctors are distressed and distraught. However, video clips of their distress is not a sufficient basis for public policy in the US.
Anybody who celebrates the death of non-criminals is despicable. However, urging well reasoned, calm consideration of a crisis is not tantamount to advocating for more deaths. Perhaps we all (including myself) need a reminder that Marcus Aurelius held that courage was one of the four essential virtues and that in the Book of Revelation cowards are consigned to the lake of fire along with people that we might have considered to be greater sinners.
Be courageous. Be prudent. Beware of masking cowardice with a fake veneer of “prudence”.
That was in the days before air travel. Do you realize that the U.S. fatality count from the Spanish Flu may very well have been ZERO if we hadn't been involved in that stupid war?
It appears those making pulic policy in the US are not just viewing Italy rather other nations who have been hit hard by this virus....since this is a new virus they have to learn what it’s behavior is, research and develope vaccine etc. etc. This info is gathered from those such as Italy etc. because viru’s have patterns in how they spread......this one is esepcially dangerous as it’s airborn and spreads with contact....and no vaccine yet to oppose it.
I watched a medical team operate yesterday at a large Physicians office ....they are indeed very serious about this and set up very well for when it hits this area.... That IS courage in the face of fear.......they are ready to win the fight against this virus.
It’s not ironic at all.....and makes no difference what the campaign was it showed that movement of troops did indeed further spread the epidemic, which was the point...

If you knew that soldiers traveling from Europe were transmitting a deadly virus, would it make more sense to quarantine everybody, or just THEM?
Actually not really.
“Flattening the curve” as they call it does not necessarily mean less people get infected. All it does is stretch the pandemic out. So instead of a peak you have a hill, or several hills.
There are studies that suggest that over the next year, 60-80% of the population is going to become infected. They claim that WILL happen. Some think (hope) if we flatten the curve it will prevent the system from being overwhelmed. But even in the better models, it is still overwhelming.
It may not work in the end anyway. Italian doctors are praying for the curve to flatten with these restrictions and quarantines, but so far there is no evidence of it. Instead there are hot spots starting to pop up in the south despite lockdowns.
And lockdowns for the long term is going to be a problem too. Economies could collapse leading to supply chain problems. People wont be able to get food. Hospitals wont be able to get medical supplies. And there could be political unrest.
Congress right now is fighting about a $1,200 check for every one. That’s not going to stretch very far. And like I said, if supply chains are disrupted, it won’t matter. You can have a closet full of gold but you can’t eat the gold.
