Question: I want to know why Hawaii Five-O has been canceled. Its been a hit since its first episode 10 years ago. It makes no sense to have a show that is so good and has great ratings to be canceled. Mary
Matt Roush: Networks dont always feel compelled to give a why when it comes time to ending a long run, but it usually has a lot to do with the business of show. While Hawaii is popular, and does well in the international market, any show becomes increasingly expensive over the long haul when it comes to renewing contracts, and already the show has shed many of its original players. According to the industry trades, stars Alex OLoughlin and Scott Caans contracts were up, and the last time this was the case, there was much speculation that OLoughlin would walk away in part because of on-set injuries. He stayed for another couple of years, but some trade reporters have suggested that this time, enough was enough, and while the network may have considered continuing the show with a new lead, they eventually decided this was a proper time to end. No fan likes to see a favorite show go off the air, but with the current exception of SVU and Greys Anatomy, no show lasts forever. (And whos to say if Magnum P.I. sticks around for a while that you wont see some of the Hawaii crew from time to time?)
From the rest of the cast?
Two of the best shows.
I only watched because of Grace Park
Sorry wrong show. That was jack Lord.
I think Jack Lord is dead.
So is Higgie Baby.
It’s all about the 18-49 demographic for adverisers. And, the show never did well in the demo.
No problem.
Trivia: Kam Fong (Chin Ho) actually was an HPD officer for over fifteen years.
Ditto.
The only drama tv programs I watch now are SEAL Team, Prodigal Son, Project Blue Book, Vikings (which will end after the second half airs), and Evil (it's 1st season is over, and it's been renewed for a 2nd season). From time to time I've given new series a chance by watching a couple of episodes, but gave up because they didn't interest me. Sadly, there's a lot of crap on tv these days.
Da da da da da da da da da da
DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA....
Couldn’t come up with anything original so they had to fall back to copying old series .... sort of like Halloween 15 or Startrek 59.
Who could not laugh when James garner as Rockford said (annoyedly) book this turkey
Not that I watched it all that often, but the Park/Kim announcements at the time were brought up on Usenet's rec.arts.tv newsgroup.
The poster consensus was that the show should have dumped McBride, assuming he was big bucks for such a lousy character, and kept the Asians...well, at least Park...
Thinking about it, my viewing tapered off to a stop shortly after it was apparent that McBride was staying. Usually like his acting, but the character didn't really add to the series, imo.
The last TV series I watched was “Smallville”. It started out well and stayed good until about season 7 when it was clearly declining. It did have some really pretty girls on it.
There were some weak episodes but also some outstanding ones.
For the last 10 years or so, I see one which intrigues me but after watching usually only a single episode, I give up. Now it is usually reruns of old series or history/real crimes type shows.
I watched the new series until about the last 6 episodes. They introduced too many lead characters, disorganized plots with two themes per episode without any serious and deep story development lines, and it just got boring.
HPD told me that in an email a couple of decades ago. Back in the early 80s I read an article about how visitors to the island would call Hawaii 5-O to respond to crimes rather than HPD. I sent them a routine email back aarond 2005 to ask if that still happened. They replied that it did.
As was the case of “Last Man Standing” , sometimes the cast gets to conservative!!!
They had the most stupid backstory for her character. Her character was supposed to be a former pro surfer. This would make her a local celebrity. Her joining the police was probably big in the local news making her totally useless for undercover work.
