For anyone who’d like to peek into one of the hospital ships:

Nice score!!
When I babysat (many moons ago), one time I had to check sofa cushions for $$ for pizza delivery guy. The parents hadn’t left enough $$.
I think I found about $5, in coin, and a LOT of old cookie crumbs :(
That was a LOT of $$, back then...lol.
“That troll/flubro/dittohead posted this on another thread:”
“I am fully invested in the stock market and have lost a ton.”
Well, let’s see. There was a month for him to pull out of the market between Wuhan and the beginning of this adjustment to the new-normal. There’s even more time now to get out, as the adjustment is only about half over.
Oh, never mind, he’s a FluBro.
Thanks so much for posting that link to the US Navy Comfort pics.
Hubby just said, yesterday, how cool would it be to say that, “during the China Virus outbreak....I got to stay on the USS Comfort (or, Mercy)”.
What a story to tell your kids/grandkids.
;-)
Probably also blames POTUS, for the China Flu, over....China :- /
Re: Nursing Home Staffing
I’ve seen numerous posts about nursing home staffing these last few weeks, so I figured I’d post some info. My observations are from Iowa/mid-west, but the situation is probably similar in much of the country.
Small Town Nursing Homes/Assisted Living
Staff are all locals. Generally, everyone who works there either lives in town or a town or farm nearby. It is typically a mixture of high school kids, college kids on summer break, single mothers, and senior citizens. Quite often, the employees are friends and relatives of the residents. The pay is better than the alternative in an economically dead small town (gas station convenience store, maybe fast food, etc) and if you are full time, there are benfits.
The younger people who work as CNAs (nursing assistants) often plan to go into nursing, physical therapy, medicine, etc. So, CNA work is good on-the-job training. College kids that work summer are often studying medicine, nursing, healthcare related subjects during school year. So, CNA work is good for experience. Single mothers and seniors who work the nursing homes often do it for the benefits (healthcare) or to supplement their income from other sources.
Big City (i.e. Des Moines for example)
Staff are a mixture of college students, immigrants, single mothers. The college students are generally studying to become doctors, nurses, physical therapists, technicians of various sorts, etc. CNA work is entry-level, and pays better than flipping burgers, so it attracts immigrants and single mothers.
Unlike staffing in a small rural town, the city nursing homes have a much harder time attracting and keeping workers (both CNAs and nurses) because there are much better job opportunities. As such, they often rely on “pool staff” (i.e. temp agencies). So, the regular staff will often be supplemented with temp workers. These temp workers can work at various nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospitals depending on their certification and job experience.
Why work as a temp? Much better pay. 15 years ago, the temps easily made 2-3x as much as regular staff, depending on the time notice was given, and on the shift, weekend, or if a holiday.
Conclusion: Re Wuhan Virus
The Wuhan virus will spread much faster in nursing homes and healthcare facilities located in the cities as they share a lot of staff between different facilities and locations. A asymptomatic “pool CNA” (temp) could easily spread it between 7 nursing homes and hospitals in a week.
Small towns typically don’t use temp employees like the cities, so it would spread much slower there.
Cause I know apes really really well.
Mercy sails for Seattle Monday, Comfort to NYC on April 1.
3x the usual staffing.
Their lives are worth 9 million dollars each...that is the mean value attributed by economists and actuaries. So you stunt an economy by 9 million dollars you COST A LIFE. You dont know the life. They are the people who die as a result of underfunded medical research, etc.
Why does it seem like I am the only one who cares about those people who nobody will ever know?
Ok...whatever.
We appreciate your brilliant cost/benefit analysis—but it is wasted on folks like us.
You need to share your stunning insights with the administration now! They are waiting for your call!
Ah. So you suspect no more attacks from China ?
Everybody cares. But we’re talking a risk of millions here. Millions times millions very costly in life and $ if not stopped early.
Can you call Trump and tell him? Maybe you can call Ivanka? I dont have any contacts in Trumps inner circle at this time.

Unemployment claims 111,000
“Two hundred employees at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA have been asked to stay home and self-quarantine due to respiratory symptoms that could be linked to the coronavirus. All of the employees are undergoing coronavirus testing.”

Cause they probably would have been killed by a virus that would have infected 60 % of the population and shutdown our hospitals if you had your way.
