Beaches in Florida are finally closing due to coronavirus concerns after local governments took action. Local officials in Clearwater Beach, which appeared earlier this week packed with visitors, voted to close by Monday. Beaches in Naples and in other communities in southwest Florida also were being closed. Meanwhile, new images show wild spring breakers continuing to party on the sand in Miami, despite South Beach's closings there as well, in response to the deadly, flu-like virus, also known as COVID-19.

Wuhan as a bioweapon virus has been floated, and I have not ruled out that possibility.
I am not aware of our federal government confirming this or that it is being investigated up to this point in time. This may be kept in secret until certain facts are confirmed. But if it were true, and it is no more deadly than the seasonal flu, China has found a way to greatly disrupt the US and world economically, politically, and to divert public attention from Wuhans origins.
I'm now in the "(un)intentionally released global bio terror weapon" camp. I've posted extensively about supporting taking a measured and balanced approach, one that considers not only public health concerns, but traditional American social/economic freedom and civil liberties as well.
After today's news conference, where Trump mentioned he's a "war time" president, I've come to realize that the current directives ARE a measured & balanced approach. That is, in a war time footing.
Think about that for moment - do we really think Trump would be buffaloed just by media hype? If these measures aren't extreme, aren't an over-reaction, but are actually appropriate given an encompassing national security risk assessment at Trump's disposal, then what conclusion(s) can you draw?
Language matters. While Trump is dismissed by some as a clown dunce, others perceive a marketing/branding method to his madness. When Trump labels someone/thing, and then rolls it out for public consumption, it's done after thoughtful (intuitive) testing and analysis.
Crooked Hilary, Crazy Bernie, Mini Mike, Sleepy Joe ... CHINA VIRUS. Then, he (re)authorizes a semi-dormant national defense act, while referring to himself as a "war time president".
Man, if you're not getting the message Trump is now sending in bold letters, I don't know what else he can do. Other than straight up announce it on live TV in front of Congress?
Which, given the rate of today's announcements (Big 3 shutting down production, Canada border closed to non-commercial traffic), could come as soon as Friday.
This Wuhan China flu is way more destructive to the human body especially the lungs .

Wow. There are a lot of concern trolls on this thread. DeSantis DID close the bars and beaches but all of you trolls have lapped up the media’s view of the Chinese Flu.

US Isn’t mass testing, only folks who are showing hard symptoms, and many of these even, are not getting tested...

In addition, I read report that in Italy, >97% of the deaths were to people with pre-existing, compromised health conditions. Most people recover. I have not seen reports on the possibility of the virus leaving permanent change to the lungs, though it would take years for that data to emerge.
We are still too dependent on China to call them on the carpet for this.
We need to get manufacturing for medical needs back in this country before making them our mortal enemy for good.
If they cut the pharmaceuticals to this country, we are royally screwed.
I'm glad that there are some Americans left that aren't cowering in the corner over this. I was in China yesterday and they're not cowering. Sure, they take your temperature and screen you when you enter the country but other than that it's pretty much business as normal with everyone wearing masks. In the U.S. we're peeing down our legs with fear and only venturing out of our house to buy 50 rolls of toilet paper at a time.
It's really a pretty sad spectacle the way our country is reacting to this. The current crop of Americans can't stop sucking their thumb over a mild virus. God forbid we have to fight a real war like WWII again, I fear we're not up to it.
No Desantis has not closed the beaches .
I live two blocks away .
Parking lots have ILL and NY and Ohio there already .
Some cities and counties have closed them .
Desantis has resisted banning them .
And the restaurants are supposed to be at 50 % which us nit being enforced .

Spring break?? Ha! I went back to help till the fields, apply anhydrous ammonia (nitrogen), and do assorted livestock chores.
From an economic standpoint, this collapse brought back memories of how in a few days Jimmah Cawtuh wrecked the ag economy for the American farmer. Many of us were instantly thrown into the red on our cash flow charts.
