New York officials say the state’s coronavirus total has jumped to 1,700, with at least 19% hospitalized. They said the number of cases will continue to rise as the state receives more test results. New York has 53,000 hospital beds and 3,000 ICU beds, far short of what state health officials are predicting will be needed, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.

No. 3000 ICU. In an emergency it will increase what is called ICU. I assume at this point, that all elective surgery has been delayed until the crisis has ended.

By end of next week, we will have five million test kits out there. So I expect the numbers to skyrocket as the results come in. That is to say, there are many of us walking around with it and just don’t know it yet.
The bottleneck is not the test kits. It is getting people tested. You need staff in hazmat suits in safe places to do it—and they are supposed to change suits after each test, because sticking swabs that far up people’s noses makes them contagious project stuff out.

Bingo! Someone finally mentions the fact that NYC is wide open for sick foreigners to come in for free health care. That’s why they were allowing travelers from Iran to come in even after the President tried to close our borders. This is a self-inflicted wound caused by the Democrats in charge of our sanctuary cities.
The bottleneck doesn’t seem to be the test kits. Looks like the lack of enough lab capacity to get the results.
It was in one of the WH press conferences a couple of days ago. The guy with grey hair running the military medical corps group that is expanding test facilities.
