And Johns Hopkins is in the running to get a chunk of the $8+ billion approved by Congress. What else are they going to say? Johns Hopkins has a vested interest in making Americans freak out. (JH is heavily funded by Mini Mike, too, so there’s that incestuous relationship going on. He said he’s determined to do what it takes to make Trump lose.)
For those unfamiliar with the world of health care when Hopkins speaks the world listens...at least the world of medicine.
I've seen this statement before. Or something similar to it.
He has zero way to know that. If that were true and given a 2% mortality rate then 10,000 should be dead or dying. Not happening.
If that’s true, it’s good news. Means the death rate is less than the “regular” flu and we can go back living normal lives.
All I know is that the cure is, so far, worse than the disease. I understand closing schools and using online distance learning, instead. But closing dining in at restaurants, for instance, is leaving a huge segment of people without an income, which in and of itself, can cause a financial crisis, not to mention this zero interest move the Fed Chairman has done. Governors, even republican ones, are taking this state of emergency, and running with it, often in the wrong direction. President Trump needs to pull back the reins and get these governors to slow down and back off, because they’re going to end up doing more harm than good, and some of them are enjoying their power more than a little too much.
Tell him shut up and find an antidote and quit stirring the pot. Everybody else get back to work.
Many of us have probably already had it and were told we had the flu. That is fact.
Irresponsible speculation. Did he just pull these numbers out of his wazoo? But because he’s an “expert” we now have another wild guess polluting the discourse.
The fact is, this guy doesn’t know any more than the hundreds of other “experts” who have already weighed in with their equally speculative opinions.
Then the hyped death rate is far less
The Establishment is yelling fire in a crowed theater.
The worst guesses are guesses by “experts” before any data on which to base their guestimate. The ONLT things that are important is what actually happens, not any guesses as to what might happen.
If that’s a good guess, then we’ll see in a few days and take some time off.
I saw discussion on another site; wherein this doctor had applied the usual “factor of 10” before applying the factor of 25 above.
And elsewhere on FR, the health official from Ohio who mentioned the “100,000 infected” in Ohio backpedaled.
A lot of this reminds me of the pile-on over the “grab ‘em by the ...kitty” remark scandal with Trump; e.g. Geraldo starting rumors and then backpedaling like hell when Trump threatened him with a lawsuit.
It’s possible to have both a genuine crisis, and people exaggerating the hell out of it for political or monetary reasons (e..g George Sore-Ass mad a lot of his money shorting the British pound).
Best and brightest, huh?
Is it possible that some of us may have had it already earlier in the year? It’s kind of a stretch, since nobody in my family had any contact with any foreigners, but we all had a bad respiratory illness in January and February that we assumed was the flu. Only it didn’t seem like a typical influenza illness. It went right into a bad cough that lingered for weeks. I even had a chest xray done to be sure I didn’t have pneumonia. Just wondering...
