BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, There are now 6 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Alabama. The cases have been confirmed out of the following counties: Elmore Jefferson Limestone Montgomery Tuscaloosa An additional individual was tested in Alabama, but is not an Alabama resident. If you recently traveled to one of these affected geographic areas within the last 14 days, visit COVID-19 Resources for Travelers. If a person has questions about being tested for COVID-19, with or without any travel history, visit COVID-19 Testing.
After not capable of testing until March 6, and up until the 11th or 12th testing only 20-30 it will now be more widespread.
Many more are occurring.

There was a long line at one of the covid-19 drive-through testing locations in Birmingham. You aren’t supposed to get a test unless ordered by a doctor as I understand. Therefore I hope that long line of cars were not all people with covid-19 symptoms.

was watching the news and at some hospital in chicago- just today- over 100 people walked in to get tested- apparently complaining of being sick- Right now we’re counting 10’s of people per state- but if that was just one hospital in chicago- how many other hospitals are there, and how many folks went to them?

If there are not containment plans in place and active, it’s going to be exponential.
Yes it comes on quickly. Exponential growth. My issue was the state of Alabama was not testing. Go to South Korea, have cough, trouble breathing, fever .... nope no test. You weren’t in China Wuhan fish market. Must be Flu / strep. Not joking. I know first hand of sick international travelers being refused testing based on guidelines.
Bureaucracy in action!
We should put them in charge of every thing.

It was the Feds fault. Following CDC guidance and using their defective kits early impacted testing big time. Government peacetime bureaucracy is second to none. Wasted time, money, lives.
This afternoon, I finally got the nerve to make the trip to Walmart for some groceries. I didn’t think it would be that hectic. I was wrong. Very wrong.
At the time, I wasn’t aware that anyone in Alabama had tested positive for the virus. Shortly before I went to checkout, I was speaking with a lady about the crowd and the empty shelves. She informed me that there had been several people who had tested positive and that the schools would be closed until April 6. Our local school had to cancel their prom, which I imagine didn’t sit very well with the students.
The bread aisle was as empty as when snow is predicted. I was able to grab two loaves before it all disappeared.
Needless to say, there is no toilet paper to be found in my entire town. Luckily, I had purchased some last week. Walmart was crazier than it is on Black Friday.
No one has been diagnosed in our town but, our county borders Tuscaloosa County, so that may change soon.
I’ve never seen anything like this since the preparation for Hurricane Ivan in 2004. One would think that the Spanish Flu had returned.
I understand being cautious, but this hysteria is ridiculous. At least everyone was polite while cleaning out the store.
not good- just like in our area with lyme disease- they say ‘nope- can’t be, there aren’t any reported cases (This was years ago in our area)- so they wouldn’t even run tests Despite people having bullseye rash- one woman had to really push to get the test done- turned out it was lyme- another nurse assistant got lyme, got tested, test said nope- so doctors denied she had it- she had to send away for a a test- showed her docs- then they tested again and found it (Lyme has lots of tests that don’t catch it)
Now though, there have been so many testing positive that folks that suspect it can at least get tested- but still the tests don’t catch it often-
Rats, my son is attending UAH.
He said they were talking about closing the school.
Hope they do.
Went to Walmart a couple of hours ago, late enough that few people were there in this small town outside of Nashville.
Toilet paper aisle was wiped empty.
Food shelves looking a lot thinner than last week.
I was already stocked on TP and food.
... And all or 50 total US deaths, mostly on the left coast, and no one under 50 years old and without a pre_existing condition. We have become such sheep.
I would be surprised if UAH didn’t close. My cousin is a student at Samford University in Birmingham and they are conducting their classes online.
The main UA campus in Tuscaloosa and UAB are closed, so I would be very surprised if UAH doesn’t close very soon.

I work part-time in Elmore County. Wasn’t aware until just then of case here (knew of the 1 next door in Montgomery), but work (restaurant) wore me out yesterday. I’m a greeter. They have me washing down almost everything with a bleach solution at the top of every hour. My daughter (physical therapy assistant) called me on her way from work and said about the same thing. Her son just got accepted to UAH and she is worried that a planned trip there will be cancelled. I work 2 more days, then off for 4. Hopefully some of the hysteria will subside by then
..oh and business was way off yesterday...sigh

Can you believe it? Americans, cowering in blind panic, pissing their pants. I’m ashamed.
