The Soviets had to set up “Potemkin Villages”... the chinese just tell the US media to report as if there were Potemkin villages...

“we hold more of their assets hostage than they do of ours”
Nonsense.
China holds $1.3 trillion in US government debt.
Plus a sizeable portion of manufacturing for US tech companies...likely over 30%. And pharmaceuticals. And any number of other things.
A SUBSTANTIAL portion of US Capital Stock.
China holds at least 10X of US assets than the US holds of Chinese assets. Likely more.
But we are the market. And in that is enormous power. We can buy from somebody else, or make our own, and turn those assets into dust.
I believe the very first daily thread was Jan 23rd.
The rest of the crew may have a better recollection than me.
But it was somewhere around the big Chinese quarantine.
China loses if it sells US T-bills ... we’re the market. We’re the boss.
Everybody runs to the US Dollar.

I looked at my pings last week to try to figure it out. The first one I replied to was on Jan. 20th I think. Wuhan closed down on January 23rd. I spent about $500 on stuff just on January 24th and didn’t stop. My wife would just kindly smile at me at first. Then after our spare room was getting filled up she started getting a bit concerned at how much I was spending, but trusted me. Two weeks ago she thanked me.
I looked it up on my ping list, and null and void first pinged me on January 1 with a thread about WHO visiting Bejing to investigate new SARS-like outbreak.
Then other threads that he posted that I didn’t read. “Hong Kong prepares for Mystery Diesease from China”, etc.
Thanks nully for bringing awareness to this very real threat. It was very interesting to go back through my comments. Before January 20th it was politics, music, “Florida Man” type stuff. Even that joke of an “impeachment” seems like trivial stuff now - and from long ago.
I’m glad that I finally woke up and still had time to prepare. I recall getting spares of stuff that I had bought on the 24th about a week later. Some of the stuff had gone from $16 to $28. The next week I looked just for grins - all gone.
That was actually very helpful - so when I saw other, more common stuff in the stores, I bought a bunch the first three weeks of February. By the start of the fourth week of February I was done.
I even walked by stacks and stacks of half-gallon hand sanitizer at Costco. “Oh - I’ve got plenty. I don’t need anymore of that.” The eight large bottles and numerous smaller bottles don’t look like much once all the store shelves are bare.
My son got the swine flu because of chuckie diseases was still open. I am sure there is a prayer thread request from me on that. Thankfully God wins and prayers were answered.
