Yes, but as far as reality, talking to financial advisers......
They did not suggest such a scenario.
...it just seems to me that less seriously a country takes this virus, the harder they’ll be hit. We’re just now, maybe, starting to end travel from Europe. We kept travel from Asia going forever. We didn’t test people who almost certainly had it. We haven’t done jack (that I know of) to get moving on going to emergency measures to get some domestic production of critical items going. And we seem to think that the cutoff in Chinese exports to the US...somehow won’t affect the US.
So maybe we’ll continue to produce power without interruption - certainly the demand will continue to drop as we shut down, and that will help. But I wouldn’t bank on it being enough.
...and, for what it’s worth, I’ve got a bunch of batteries and 3 chest freezers, so I can take interruptions without skipping a beat - whether or not they happen.
CNN just showed video of people in Milan, Italy—a city that has the virus about as bad as you can get it—and all the lights were on... ;-)
“Were you sealing it with the metal lids/rings?”
Hmmm, good point. Need to check!
More on Milan—people were opening their windows and singing their national anthem loudly out the window...
Everybody in that city is ready to do whatever they need to do...
Just as we will be...
I always figured that the pressure canner would take care of the perishables if we lost the freezer capability.
When I was out yesterday, I grabbed several boxes of both sizes of canning jars lids. There were plenty of those.
Apparently, nobody is thinking along those lines which does not surprise me as those skills are slowly being lost.
And I have Tattler lids in reserve.
Regards this:
>>Texas has its own gridyou know that, right?
Most of Texas is under the Texas grid. El Paso in the West and the Pan Handle are not covered by it.
Texas base load power is maintained by the Comanche Peak nuclear plant in North Texas, west of Ft Worth and by the STP Nuclear Plant in Bay City on the Gulf Coast.
The Texas grid was a net generator until several coal power plants were decommissioned in the last 4-years due to Federal and State subsidized wind power (16% of Texas power now) and low natural gas prices.
This past summer the Texas grid nearly collapsed because all the wind turbines stopped generating near simultaneously.
Prices went to the stratosphere on the spot market until several natural gas peaker plants spooled up.
See:
https://www.powermag.com/texas-impending-reliability-issues-with-wind-power/
Losing either Comanche Peak or the the STP Nuclear Plants from COVID-19 staff getting infected simultaneously means the Texas grid collapses into rolling brown outs and black outs.
FULL STOP.
Hence the Fed’s briefing of the Dallas City Council so they can prepare.
“You do _not_ want any of them returning home to your town and spreading the disease. :-(”
At this point, I’m resigned to it...but then again, we’re bunkered, so we, at least, won’t be getting sick.
More Milan info—a few days old:
Absolute lack of what we consider a health care system is the more probable answer.
The warm weather theory is pretty much wishful thinking at this point. We can still hope, but I wouldn’t place any large bets (like lives) on it.
Get it running and get parts for it now.
They do better when they run, just like cars. They don't like to sit and often deteriorate when they do and then need work and replacement parts.
No point in waiting until you need it to fix it.
We've been there too often ourselves and have FINALLY learned that lesson.

Germany thinks it can buy itself out of CV. Norway to their north and Spain, Italy and France to their south have put out the “closed” sign. To their east, Australia and Poland have shut their borders.
I leave it to Texans to respond to you...
The heck with goat meat.
They’ll produce a lot of milk.
Only do the meat when there’s no other use for them.
Im have always assumed that military would step in at that point...
Bob...I realize your sarcasm, but others may not. :-)
“Bob...I realize your sarcasm, but others may not. :-)”
LOL - think I care!
Here’s a link to brief video clio of a trumpet player in Milan. Several links of public singing. text choice includes English .
Were in a war. Our enemy is the virus.
Damn right.
And it looks like China has gone over to the enemy with their threats to withhold goods. And the information they withheld as well.
Just remember that when we have time for some accounting.
