Maybe not a whole lot.

They have to get here pretty fast to not be lost to rot.

Besides spring is around the corner.

“I am nacho little covid quarantine cuddle companion.”

You might think they are contemplating you as a cuddle companion. And you might be until they get hungry.

“But our economic collapse due to their virus outbreak and response might be the thing that straightens us out.”

I agree. It’s harsh medicine, but this country has literally be ASLEEP for decades. Now people are forced to wake up and smell the ether.

And the disease takes so long to resolve that the weakest die fast enough to give misleading data.

cgbg, you overlook age-related and co-morbidity issues. People are more likely to contract diseases, and more likely to develop serious cases of them, as they age and come down with other medical problems. This is normal for most any disease, but seems to be much magnified for CoVid-19.

Dark Wing pointed out that nuclear power plant operators who acquired their skills tend to be ex-career military, i.e., retired after 20 years of service. That puts them in the 40+ year-old age cohort, and excludes the low-risk 20-39 year-old age cohorts.

So nuclear power plant control room staff are almost all in the higher-risk age cohorts. That completely skews your statistics.

A week ago, a female container truck drive at a ship yard had a video of how empty of containers and activity it was. No containers means no shipping to distribution centers which means shelves will get bare and stay bare.

Hubby and I discussed it.

In ‘our’ opinion, this would be a continuity issue and if something happened to the ability of the local utilities to keep the lights on it would be (hopefully) done by the national guard or military in worst case.

And those young people who recovery are showing a 20-30% permanent reduction in lung capacity

The 20%-30% is likely only associated with those who end up on a respirator with ARDS or severe pneumonia, and is caused by pulmonary fibrosis. For others, the amount of damage is likely proportional to the severity of the infection in their lungs. The mildest cases might result in no damage, getting worse as your lungs are more effected. Still, even a 5%-10% loss that only really bothers you when you're hiking, skiing, biking, working out, etc sucks. BTW, I commented on this a month ago, after I found similar information about long term outcomes in SARS/ARDS victims. In a significant portion, the cardio-pulmonary damage resulted in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and depression.

The story posted yesterday was very vague and studies from SARS-COV victims can't directly be applied to SARS-COV2, but it's pretty clear there is going to be some correlation, and some survivors are going to suffer long term cardio-pulmonary damage. The long term damage SARS-COV2 causes probably won't be quantified until next year.

I would think there’s some sort of provision in the National Emergency Act for things like that.

The age statistics have been posted here over and over again.

The death rates drop dramatically in a step-wise fashion.

40 to 60 puts you in the mid-range...

Please, do some research here.
