As people around the world canceled their trips because of fears of the new coronavirus, Ashley Henkel booked three.
Henkel, 20, is taking advantage of cheap flights to see North America. She lives in California's Central Valley, but this summer she'll be in Vancouver, New York City and Portland, Oregon.
A college student itching to travel, she's one of many people staring the deadly virus in the face and saying, "Whatever."
As flight schedules are scaled down and airline stocks plunge, carriers are offering deals that have put air travel within reach for people who usually can't fly.
It's a high-risk, high-reward trip, people say.

Each one of them is like a typhoid Mary...they get a mild case and then spread it around.
I work with someone who is scheduled to return from a cruise in the next few days. (I found about the cruise yesterday.)
I will be actively keeping my distance from him for the next few weeks.
BULLCRAP. "99.7%" are over 20. The 60-and-up are dramatically affected.
Get your data straight, please. Here are the death rates by age group.

That only tells us the rates of death by age group. That chart doesnt’ tell us the ratio of those that have died broken down by age group.
The only thing that can be drawn from that chart is the rate of deaths start to rise at 50 years of age and shoots up after 70.
They are far more likely to die in a car accident on the way to the airport.
See, we still have smart kids who realize the media is full of shit (to borrow a Biden phrase) and are thinking for themselves.
Lots of hope for America.
99.7%, or something like that, of deaths are 80 years and older. The young would do well to take advantage of the cheap flights while they last.
Meh. My wife and I are 66 and we’re taking advantage of it - to see family in Seattle.
We’ll avoid that nursing home in Kirkland, though.
Life’ll kill you! - Warren Zevon
No reason to go there. What a silly post you just made. Prefer trips to hiking destinations in National Parks.
Why post such dangerous misinformation?
Southwest has $49 Flights one-way going anyewhere in the US [Not Hawaii] - I booked 4 future flights -
bttt
I’m just relate my understanding. The bulk of those that have died have been over 80 and in ill health. The rate of death from Coronavirus has been otherwise fairly low.
One of my first thoughts. Their risk is relatively low.
Never let a crisis go to waste!
Almost as if this disease was designed to target Boomers.
The Cabin Air circulates through HEPA Filters and is refreshed every three minutes. If you are concerned, open the Air Nozzle above your Seat that feeds fresh outside air towards your face.
The Airlines are ramping up their Cabin cleaning between Flights, disinfecting surfaces that are touched the most like Armrests and Tray Tables.
DO NOT touch the Airliner Safety Card or Flight Magazines in the Seat Pouch. They are as dirty as Restaurant Menus.
So this is the type of reckless sh*t that can be devastating. The horror will be when this virus crosses with another and then kiss it all goodbye.
I hear hotel rates in Wuhan China are down. Maybe they should consider vacationing there, to save money.
It was certainly designed, so the Boomer Bug effect can be assumed to be part of the plan.
LOL! ‘Gilt by Association’.
(I’m stealing that.)
