There was a post yesterday about mask manufacturing and Congress. As the story goes, there was a need to limit liability for masks (presumably for improper use and care). Dems in Congress refused to limit liability. Thus, no incentive to ramp up mask production. I recall Tom Cotton (R-AR) was the source of the info. Cannot verify whether this is an accurate report.

Italy has closed all shops except groceries and pharmacies and transportation still available.

Sharpen the kitchen knives and make sure hammer heads are secure on their handles.

That is exactly why this virus is so risky...it spreads fast. The crew on Grand Princess should have been better screened. Last time I read the news about that ship, 17 infected were crew and 2 were passengers. The crew of the ship I was on 12 days ago, any crew member who had traveled to China recently was filtered out. And all passengers were questioned about recent travels and their passports looked at. Like I said in other posts, there were 2400 or so cruises within last 2 months. If only 2 or 3 had problems, that is pretty good ratio.

That will of course change as more are tested from Grand Princess. What is the silver lining with this virus is that most healthy people are not dying from it.

I’m not willing to speculate that far. Maybe in 14 days, I’ll weigh in on that thought

However, as an accompanying note, Cuomo bright out the national guard to help contain a one mile diameter “containment” zone in NY suburb. So there’s that.

Certainly, there are contingent plans for all kinds of situations.

Oh, for God's sake.

If true, cr-- like this is probably going on "all over".

I may need to rethink my position on this: Maybe Pres. Trump does need to declared a national emergency - just to prevent one!

At the very least, impediments like this need to be very publicly called out.

9th case in Montgomery County identified as police officer; Pennsylvania state total now at 16
Updated 42 minutes ago
DOYLESTOWN, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — The total number of cases in Pennsylvania now stands at 16, including a police officer in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County investigates 9th presumptive positive case

During a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, county officials said a 35-year-old Lower Providence Township police officer has tested presumptive positive for coronavirus.

“The Montgomery County Office of Public Health is currently working to determine which individuals, including other township staff and members of the public, this individual came into contact with while infected and before starting a self-isolation period,” officials said in a news release.

The man lives in Perkiomen Township.

On Monday, a Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia doctor working at a facility in King of Prussia tested presumptive positive for COVID-19.

Looking at a cruise 60 days out, depending on short term discounts. I am a bargain hunter. It takes me 1 week to prepare for the cruise to make sure I have every little item packed which might need, and 2 weeks to unpack, do laundry, put away all the little items properly so I will find them again.

Thanks for the New Rochelle story.

I was looking for pictures of the National Guard to see what gear they were wearing—no luck.

OR

State announces 4 new presumptive positive COVID-19 cases
March 11, 2020

PORTLAND, Ore.—Oregon now has a total of 19 people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since Feb. 28 after the Oregon Health Authority announced four new presumptive positive cases of the novel coronavirus today.

OHA confirmed one new case each in Polk, Marion, Umatilla and Deschutes counties. None of the new cases involved travel to a country where the virus is actively spreading. The Polk, Marion and Deschutes cases had no known close contacts with confirmed cases, so they are considered community-spread. The Umatilla County case is a close contact with that county’s first case.

It was quietly reported, maybe two weeks ago, as we were looking to bring back US citizens from wuhan, that 9 or so facilities were being created by MIL with 1000 beds.

Or do I recall incorrectly?

Hard to imagine that we have NOT increased military readiness, for dynamic situations, both domestically and internationally. This virus is bringing global instability. Iran gov’t infected. China threatening us with not selling medicine to us. Israel on no fly in or out. Getting itchy out there.

It looks like an aid package for individuals. Maybe small businesses.

And perhaps a disaster declaration.

Tax breaks and business bailouts off the table for now.

Wall St. will have to fend for themselves.

Containment is INDIVIDUAL responsibility. Why should we depend on the government like we did on our mothers during kid years? For one thing the government is not as competent as ourselves.

The problem is that if the health care system gets overwhelmed, if affects everyone.

Quarantines are needed, and that is a .gov responsibility, just like national defense.

Another question:

My 89+ year old Mom is being cared for at home, and still has a bit of mobility with a walker or wheelchair, but she has incredibly bad arthritis. We do all we can to relieve the pains this brings with non-narcotic methods, and actually have her taking less Norco than she was for a while there, but, I still have to take her to her Dr. once a month to get the Norco prescription renewed. (Can’t be done if she isn’t seen in person.) This GREATLY increases her risk of exposure.

Can the Feds issue a request to states to relax this requirement if the Dr. can provide proof of a severe chronic condition?
