A conference to discuss the impact of coronavirus on business in the US has been cancelled - because of a sudden rise in infections in New York.
The roundtable, called Doing Business Under Coronavirus, was canned after 173 cases of the infection were confirmed in the east coast city, where the conference was supposed to be held on Friday.
The Council on Foreign Relations organised the event to help support the businesses facing increased pressure from the impact of Covid-19.
Other conferences, scheduled from March 11 to April 3, also had to be scrapped - including roundtables in New York and Washington as well as national events across the US.
It comes after the National Guard revealed plans to shut down schools, places of worship and any other large gathering places in New Rochelle, the New York suburb most affected by the illness.
The Westchester County community has the 'largest cluster' of coronavirus cases in the country and a one-mile containment area will be set up, according to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The area is the epicenter of of the state's coronavirus outbreak and accounts for more than 100 of New York's 173 confirmed cases.
The radius centers around the Temple Young Israel of New Rochelle synagogue that was attended by Manhattan attorney Lawrence Garbuz who has been linked to the outbreak in the area.

Probably makes it on of the most productive conferences on the subject.
Oof
Surely, this story is made up?
Cancel a corona virus conference because...corona virus?Bring Out Your Dead
but but but but but "it's just the flu, bro!"
The irony is ironic...
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

The Daily Mail is not your run of the mill newspaper. It is the UK’s third highest circulating newspaper.
Plus, it has also been reported elsewhere. See here:

My wife was scheduled to do one of her historical presentations on Saturday at the theater in the Museum of Flight in Seattle. She has done it there many times in the past and they told her that it is her ability to draw a crowd that was her undoing. She has many people who come to see her shows. They are not cancelling their show about WWII LBGTQ people being discriminared against while they nearly single handedly won the war.

SNORT!! Good one. Unfortunately, I’m not sure you are joking.
It sounds like it, but I am not joking.
As I suspected, you just CAN’T make this stuff up.
Too funny.
Gack! I clicked on your link. Un-effing believable.
This is what happens when you award ridiculous and worthless degrees to unemployable people...”Introductions given by Kevin McKenna, PhD in US and LGBTQ History.”
I have wondered why the Daily Mail is so obsessed with covering American stories? They do it far more often and more pervasively than even American outlets. I cannot think of an American newspaper that would cover British stories more than their newspapers do, so how to explain the Daily Mail?
[ Coronavirus conference is canceled due to... Coronavirus ]
Well...O.K.
Oooooh, Council on Foreign Relations. I guess the New World Order Council, oops, the CFR will have to reschedule.
