An analysis of the novel coronavirus’ spread inside the United States suggests that thousands of Americans are already infected, dimming the prospects for stomping out the outbreak in its earliest stages.
Researchers estimate that by March 1, the virus had already infected about 1,000 to 10,000 people who have not yet been accounted for. At the start of this month, about 80 U.S. cases had been confirmed and officials were still expressing confidence they could contain the new virus.
Quarantines, contact tracing and other public health measures have likely tamped down the COVID-19 outbreak here, the researchers said. But from the start, a group of infected travelers just big enough to fill an elevator likely has been expanding the virus’ reach, largely undetected.

My fear of this virus threat is the opportunity for the police state to get into position to instill their plan of martial law.

You’re absolutely correct. The tv news has become insufferable. I refuse to watch the “panic” and turn the tube off. Amazing, but not surprising! sheesh

Of course the number of cases is above the official tally.
That’s like saying, an hour after the polls close, that the number of votes cast is greater than the official tally.
I’ve been saying this for weeks, and I have been right the entire time.
By now there are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of people who had it, got over it, and never even knew it.
Here is an article urging government, business and community leaders to engage in “social distancing “ (i.e. lockdowns) ASAP. Lots of graphs and explanations as to why China may have actually stopped this thing, and why Italy closed down(and why we should). Bottom line: a lockdown stops the spread, but it takes 2 weeks to see results because this disease spreads way faster than the official numbers anywhere...especially when you aren’t doing enough testing like here. Our single biggest mistake was in not using the same test kit as everyone else, but making one that didn’t work...now we have no clue how bad the spread has been, and it is horrible. We are Italy, times 5 or 10.

Every disease starts small and grows, especially if you dismiss the potential for spread out of hand and then do nothing. The Spanish flu of 100 years ago once had numbers similar to what you posted, but it didn’t end that way. We have better communications and a better knowledge of how this thing spreads than 100 years ago, but are still handicapped by individuals infected with Normalcy Bias.

Could be the same amount have it now. We know there are at least 1000 confirmed cases.

In WA, we are at Level 2 precautions. At Level 3, they lock you up (”involuntary quarantine”) if you have been merely exposed. I view being locked up with others who may have been exposed as far too risky.
At what point do people refuse the Health department and a gunfight ensues?
That would mean that the death rate is much lower than currently calculated.
Why don’t they keep count of the people who recover?
