It’s not about the disease. It’s about being part of the “crowd”. They see people panic buying and they want to be one of the cool kids. Bottled water?
It’s like people who see a line and they go stand in it, not knowing what it is for.

Yah, I don't really consider TP a necessity. A nice thing to have but a necessity, no.
I suppose the average American has horrible digestion though so it's probably on their mind a lot.

GF has exact same symptoms as me so we threw in the towel on being separated.
Mild temp...99.7-100.3
Chest congested (me mostly)
Dry cough (her mostly)
Fatigue
Body aches (her mostly)
Tried weight lifting last night at home. Short of breath. Not strong like usual. We decided to stop. Because it could weaken our immune system.
Feel better this morning.
Guy at work still ICU isolation, bad symptoms.
Supposed to finally be tested yesterday. Who knows when results will come back. Two days? Don’t know.
Still at home...waiting for news.
HIGH volume of continued international travel at the office.
Mgmt still letting everything go on as normal SMH
Appreciate your caring VM

Have you read the medical professional texts in Italy ?
They are dramatic .
The health care systems have utterly crashed in N Italy .
They did not contain like us and let the
infected. Chinese vacationers roll in there for Mardi Gras festivals just like
Spring break here .
I have watched a leadership that ignored testing for 5 weeks while Taiwan and Hong Kong and Singapore set to strict screening protocols and containment.
They are being dragged kicking and screaming dealing with this crisis.
We need containment not Open airports fir the infected to roll in from Italy.
We need to slow down the case loads of the infection not
ignore it .
We don't want to be like Italy here.

Bring Out Your Dead

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

We live in the boonies and it will likely never make it here or not in great numbers but I’m stocking up just in case. I planned on buying a freezer this Spring anyway so I’m working on getting it filled with stuff on sale. Whole chicken 99 cents/lb, baby back ribs $2.99/lb and I’m also stocking up on canned goods and TP etc but I would have been dong that a little anyway. I’m just doing a little more of it. Will save shopping time later when the weather is good and I have other things to do, plus, it’s not like the price is going to go down on anything so it’s a money saver.
The only thing I’ve seen low in stock is Lysol and N95 masks but I can still get both. I just bought a new dust mask because I can’t get refills for my old one right now. The old one was basically a frame with silicone seal against face that held plain N95 type filters. New one is more like a spray masks with filter on each side. The plain N95 filters with straps and no face gasket have never fit me well so I buy fancier ones.

I am a little dramatic now I am burned out on our lost opportunity to stop this in Late Jan like Taiwan and other smart countries did .
We cared more for Wall Street than public health and the stupidity of open airports has not stopped .
That press conference was sad .
