He received an Oscar nomination for his work in the acclaimed 1998 film Saving Private Ryan.
Tom Hanks now returns to the war drama genre playing a naval commander Capt. Ernest Krause in Greyhound, a World War II drama from filmmaker Aaron Schneider starring the two-time Academy Award winner, 63.
Hanks wrote the screenplay based on the 1955 book The Good Shepherd from author C.M. Forester.

Sometimes I find Hank’s dramatic roles a bit “hammy”, but the man is committed to keeping the memory of WW2 in the public eye, so cant hate on this film.
Well, that's a nice surprise.
To everyone: the book is excellent !
In the UK Daily Maiul article they state that he has to “cross the Atlantic with no help from the air troops”. They probably mean that there were gaps in air coverage for the convoy due to range limitations of aircraft or bad weather conditions. During the war the coverage gaps decreased as aircraft with longer ranges became available for use. Eventually, air coverage could be continuously provided for the whole transit.
I've been to the WW-II museum in New Orleans twice. That museum was made possible by Hanks and has expanded since its first opening. One of the most worthwhile attractions in the city.
It's based on a C. S. Forrester novel. I don't think it's an actual historical event, is it?
Definitely! It’s not that people have really liked watching him in movies since the 80’s and that almost everything he is in is wildly successful from romantic comedies to dramas to war flicks. No No, it’s that “the fix is in”.
“Hanks” actual-age-out-of-range problem has been a recurrent issue, though as many times as he’s gotten away with it, the people that weigh that tend to think he’ll always be able to get away with it.
Bachelor Party is still his best movie.
The Burbs was pretty good too.
Yeah, "event" probably overstates it. Perhaps "based on history" is enough.
Army majors got “eggs”.
Tom Hanks lost me when ,after the Pacific series was made, how we as a nation were very rascist towards the Japanese because our service men and women would call them dirty Japs or yellow monkies. Too bad. In ear that how it goes. Tmmy never had to experience that.
Hanks role in Dan Brown’s “Da Vinci Code” did it for me. If he’a Christian, to play that the role he did he must be apostate, worse antichrist in his belief system.
Fair question.
The Commanding Officer of any ship can be called "Captain," regardless of their rank, but only O-5 (Commander) and above wear "scrambled eggs" on their visor. Admirals wear two rows of scrambled eggs.
Yeah, that sounds about right. Might have to go see this one ... looks really intense.

He won’t get a dime from here.
I quit going to Hollywood movies way back in the early ‘70’s.
I refuse to subsidize their fraudulent BS
Bachelor Party is a cinematic high point.
The one that sank in October 1941.
