well, if you’re going to be all fatalistic, convinced that containment will ALWAYS fail, that NOBODY can be trusted, then why complain about screening at all? It’s not fair to condemn people who are trying their best with what knowledge they have, and then say, don’t bother, we’re all dead anyway. Where does your argument go from here? except that?

#SARSCoV2 genomes are sampled extremely heterogeneously in time and space. Rapidly growing local outbreaks get sampled intensively and result in overrepresentation of some variants. This happened early on around the Wuhan Seafood market and now with the Italian outbreak. [2/3]

Any statistical inference needs to account for such sampling biases and just taking values at face values will result in wrong, misleading, or downright dangerous inferences. [3/3]
Containment can work—but you have one chance to get it right.
You _have_ to close the borders, in and out, as the _first_ step.
Screening is a “half measure”.
As they said in Breaking Bad, “no half measures”.

That’s ridiculous and an overreaction. Just leave it out overnight, then in the sun for a while, then let the dog pee on it or do it yourself. Warm urine is extremely cytotoxic to lipid-covered RNA viruses.

Thank you. That Trump tweet is brutal, but it fits with his attitude and approach with the airline execs and now at the town hall on Fox. Jared and Ivanka are sheltered in the bubble with him, but you would think Don Jr or someone would have got through to him on this.
A killer tonight too was he said, “What we’re all of maybe three weeks into this now, at least as far as our thinking it was really something.” I paraphrase, but that is just horridly too reflective of where the White House has been on this.

That’s why you never hear about COVID-19 bladder or urinary tract infections.
My understanding is that the second pneumonia shot is more of a booster shot aimed at somewhat different bacteria. I received paperwork describing both but don’t have them handy right now. I don’t know how many years the first shot is good for.

I was joking. That’s how rumors get started.
If you don’t test it and find it, then no one will know it is there. We don’t want to panic the masses, don’t you know!
That’s the only explanation I can come up with.
