What unusual things are you observing caused by the Coronavirus / COVID-19 scare?
Last night I was walking in downtown Menlo Park, California from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. It was a beautiful, warm evening. But the town was almost deserted and the restaurants were maybe 1/3 to 1/2 full. There were a few bums on the streets pushing their shopping carts full of treasures, but they didn't seem concerned about catching an illness. One Asian woman walked past me on the almost-deserted sidewalk wearing a facemark.
This afternoon (about 3 PM) I took our dog walking on the Charleston Slough levee in Mountain View. It was about 75 degrees and a glorious blue sky. This is very close to Google world headquarters and usually the levees are packed with walkers, joggers, bicyclists and runners. Today I passed maybe a total of ten people in the 2.5 miles we walked. At one point, I could look a half mile ahead of me and a half mile behind me and see no one. That is really weird. The funny thing is that, with no people on the levee and with the clean fresh air on the bay, you probably have lower risk of contracting the disease than anywhere else on the Peninsula. Go figure!
Driving out of that part of Mountain View on a normal day is really hard because of all of the Google traffic and commuting busses. Today there was very light traffic headed away from the bay back toward Mountain View.
Everything looks phenomenally normal :)
And I’m in a big city.
Maybe we’ll get lucky and Edgar Allen Poe will drop by and leave a post :)

I think the lefties and lefty technology hubs will do absolutely everything in their power to create the impression of complete disaster to damage the stock market in an attempt to falsely portray President Trump’s administration as inadequate and install their choice of idiot in office in 2020.

An acquaintance in an email yesterday afternoon told me he saw almost no one wearing facial masks in the Dallas, Ft. Worth airport. We had been discussing how people were preparing for the corona virus.
With the possibility of needing to isolate ourselves if the virus spread, I decided to replenish our supply of toilet paper. We're homebodies and don't go to town often, living six miles from town and 17 miles from the Costco. Because we're relatively remote I try to keep us stocked up on essentials.
There seemed to be a good supply of the brand we buy so I loaded one of the large packages onto my cart. As I was leaving that area of the store I overheard an employee explaining to some customers that she had worked several years for the store. She pointed up at the metal shelving and said that she had never seen those shelves empty before. Based on that I decided to pick up a second package of the toilet paper.
So now we have a plentiful supply of rice, beans, and toilet paper. Life is good.
Now that I think of it, I guess I should replenish our gas and diesel supplies. I think I'm down to only ten gallons of each.

Shelves empty of hand sanitizer, less toilet paper, far less bleach.
If that is their plan, I think they are moving too soon.
I suspect that by election day we will know very well just what to expect from this virus. My wife and I are in our seventies and not in the best of health. We both stay vaccinated for pneumonia and flu.
I'm a bit of a history buff and find that I have lived during a relatively safe time in a very safe place. Life is not like this for many people in many places. It's important for sensible people to remember that.
We finished stocking up a couple of weeks ago, but went to the grocery store for vegetables and fresh items. I noticed that the Clorox hand wipes were sold out, as well as almost all hand sanitizer products.
Walgreens has signs all over the store saying that they were out of masks and sanitizer until further notice.
Outside of our borders this is a very real thing. The Chinese aren’t throwing a wrench into their economy for show or for our benefit. It is killing people in big enough numbers to scare them into some extreme measures.
There’s evidence that this virus is more dangerous to those of Asian extraction. It has to do with ACE2 receptors. It’s possible that we will experience milder cases, but it’s also too early to know. The vaccines for flu and pneumonia are a wise decision, Covid-19 is another lung disease

Here in Australia it’s much the same in every Supermarket in Sydney but the weirdest thing is that I spotted a middle aged Chinese woman with 30 1 litre bottles of Tomato sauce
in her trolley and nothing else.Then I thought that is going too far with hoarding groceries.
What angered me though is that Toilet paper is popping up on Ebay for $200 per roll.
The people that do this should be lined up against a wall and shot!
I was travelling through the middle of Palo Alto at noon today (Palo Alto borders Mountain View on the north), and there was normal traffic and normal number of people out. The high-end grocery store had an average number of people in it, and only shortages were rice and hand sanitizers. Saw no one with a mask.
I believe China is trying to make this disease seem worse than it is because it allows them to lock up whomever they want, disappear them and claim they died of corona.
China wants to purge its society of protesters and other undesirables, other countries don’t have comparable medical systems. There was cell phone data of a Chinese waiting room wherein bodybags lying on dirty linen were placed across the chairs of the waiting room. THese patients had supposedly died of Corona - if China wanted to stop the spread of Coronavirus in that region, they wouldn’t spread contamination so willingly. Mind you, China will treat their elites differently; you won’t see bodies on waiting room chairs in elite hospitals.
