I just got back from wally world. On my way in, I saw a professional guy in a nice suit, crew cut, grab sanitizer wipes to clean the cart handle. Passed him later and didn’t think to look in his cart but I looked back and saw gator-ade 8 packs hanging on all sides of his cart. Plenty of Lysol on blue jugs but I got the last yellow. No food items low. Got up to checkout and didn’t even have to wait. Then the cashier coughed while facing the bag she was filling and didn’t cover so she basically coughed on our food. 60-65 y.o. woman. This is the one time I wish there wasn’t enough cashiers(usually the case) so I would have had to use self checkout.

The store is over 100 miles from the nearest city, St Louis, and 60 miles from the interstate. Rural. I think people here, that actually watch the news. Figure this is just going to be a city thing. UPS, FedEx, USPS and every distributor that serves this area, are all based out of St Louis.

I’ll be going out every morning this week to get something. Different direction each time. Got mostly canned goods at walmart. I don’t do produce or meat from walmart. New grocery ads come out tomorrow so I’ll be checking those for meat deals. Gonna try and fill the little chest freezer we just bought. I’ve got a generator I can run a couple of times a day. I doubt we’d lose electric but if so, we’ll use the freezer and a cooler. I do have an RV fridge that will run on propane so I can set that up if needed.

We’re supposed to take a trip to Virginia in May. We’ll see how things are going then. They people we’d be visiting go on missions to China once a year. If they go this year, I don’t think we’ll be visiting them.

Sounds like you’ve got your plan and system down.

(The coughing cashier reminds me of the elderly, runny nose tissue lady, I saw, yesterday...pushing her cart w/her used tissue.)

We have boxes of electrolyte tabs on hand. Our wallyworld was comepletely out of tp and water, yesterday. I’m sure they’re restocking.

We also have upcoming trips planned that we are waiting to see about. We have a feeling that some of them may be cancelled by the groups that are putting on presentations we are to attend.

Walmart’s foods are higher than the grocery store but will grocery shop there if I’m there to get something that isn’t food due to mileage. There are 3 grocers within driving distance in opposite directions but I’m sticking to the one (the crappy one) that is the farthest from the big city. The other two have too many people commuting into the city.

Canned veg at the grocery store are .48 but WM is half again and more. Weekly ad has bone in pork roasts for $1.29 which is a regular sale price. But it’s Venezuela style empty shelves so you get what you can because it won’t be there tomorrow. They went 6 months without canned tomatoes. I usually snag the last one or two items off the shelf and make them go to the back to find something. Since the end of Jan., I’ve found only 4 small hand sanitizers scattered over several trips. This last trip was the first they’ve had Lysol but had to get 2 blue labels and one purple label. Had to dig through the canned corn to find 12 that weren’t dented and rusted. A couple weeks prior they finally had cornmeal but just 3 of the little tiny packages - yes, they’re now in the pantry.

Regarding you comments about meat in the freezer: I agree, I am not concerned about losing power. But since you are mentioning backup plans I just want to add that canning meat in a pressure canner is an easy process. Its just time consuming. I’ve had a freezer go out twice in my life but both times caught it early enough to save my meat. My 3 freezers are once again packed but I’m prepared with equipment to can should that become necessary.
