Walmart’s foods are higher than the grocery store but will grocery shop there if I’m there to get something that isn’t food due to mileage. There are 3 grocers within driving distance in opposite directions but I’m sticking to the one (the crappy one) that is the farthest from the big city. The other two have too many people commuting into the city.
Canned veg at the grocery store are .48 but WM is half again and more. Weekly ad has bone in pork roasts for $1.29 which is a regular sale price. But it’s Venezuela style empty shelves so you get what you can because it won’t be there tomorrow. They went 6 months without canned tomatoes. I usually snag the last one or two items off the shelf and make them go to the back to find something. Since the end of Jan., I’ve found only 4 small hand sanitizers scattered over several trips. This last trip was the first they’ve had Lysol but had to get 2 blue labels and one purple label. Had to dig through the canned corn to find 12 that weren’t dented and rusted. A couple weeks prior they finally had cornmeal but just 3 of the little tiny packages - yes, they’re now in the pantry.
Wally-World has something I’m not seeing at other discount groceries: Low or no salt canned veggies, typically at ~$.50 for a std. size 15 oz. (approx.) can. Good for people who should reduce their sodium intake - which is a lot of us. This lineup must be popular, because it seems to be gradually expanding.
