Heres where you can stuff your plastic-bag ban.
New Yorkers were forced to begin grappling with a new shopping reality Sunday as the states ban on plastic shopping bags kicked in and not many people were happy about it.
I think its ridiculous, letter-carrier Scott Kimmel, 56, said while shopping at the Whitestone Target in College Point, Queens. I understand about conserve, take care of the environment, but cmon!
About half the shoppers seen by The Post on the first day of the bag ban, including Kimmel, were compensating by bringing their own bags from home, while another quarter opted to just go bagless rather than pay the 5-cent paper-bag fee allowed under the law, and the remaining 25 percent coughed up the nickel charge per bag.
I was totally shocked, Target shopper Richie Alvarez, 49, said of the move. This is what our world is coming to. Yeah, they charged me extra for the bag. Thats why I only took one. It would normally be two or three bags.
The law, passed by state lawmakers last year, bars single-use plastic bags at any retailer from supermarkets to bodegas that collects sales tax at their store.
It allows shoppers to bring bags from home, buy a reusable bag at the store, or pay the 5-cent fee for paper bags.
Although it went into effect Sunday, state officials said they wont bring the hammer down on retailers who ignore the law until April, when fines could start to kick in.
People dont want to hear this, said the manager of C-Town Supermarket on Manhattans Lower East Side, who only identified himself as Henry. Theyre not happy. At least I have a month to break them in. Were trying to get cheap mesh bags for them. Well see.

Good news for some New Yorkers. Roaches love the glue in paper bags. So pest control companies will soon see more income coming their way.
I stopped at the Dalles Ore Fred Meyer this morning....I had no clue they had the bag ban on.....the self checkout asked me if I was going to use my own bags, buy bags or no bags....well all my stuff was already in the bags, so naturally I checked “no bags”....saved myself about $0.25...ha ha....
I don’t think so; here in neighboring NJ where a ban is widely anticipated, I had my purchases bagged in a sturdy plastic bag clearly labeled “re-usable”, and says it is good for 125 uses...
Happy to see big business figured a way around this nonsense.
We keep large cardboard boxes in our cars to avoid the 10 cent per bag charge California mandated at checkout. Both cars are Volvo wagons, so we just leave the rear seats down, and load up one of the cars once a week into the boxes to avoid the aggravation.
Single use bags? I use mine to clean the cat box. I do use reusable bags though. No biggie.
The option to pay a fee for the bags here in NJ (being worked out, but not finalized yet) was dismissed because the lawmakers publicly said it defeated the purpose of saving the Earth. I suspect privately, libs said ethnic minorities and women would be most impacted...
The problem is, when they get to the point they can no longer stand living in their liberal “utopia’s” they relocate to more conservative states and being libs, they continue to vote for the exact same people and policies they just escaped from.
This is why Florida is purple. New Hampshire is purple, etc...We have several new neighbors in our suburban Tampa neighborhood from NY and NJ, just arrived about 6 months ago and they have Biden and Bernie for president signs in their front lawns. Their wives have #Resist stickers on the rear windows of their CUV’s.
Republicans used to control the majority in the new york state senate. As a result, they were able to prevent much of the democrats extremist schemes. But as of 2018, democrats captured the majority. As a consequence, theyre going to town implementing their leftist agenda to their hearts desire.
New york will soon be competing with california in a race to the bottom
While visiting my mom in CA I learned all about the bag rules. First of all, when you go shopping there’s the extra step of getting the reusable bags out of the trunk/back. Better take them all in since you can’t be sure of how many you’ll need. They do get a bit nasty after several reuses, but, saving the environment is worth it, right?
In CA, they still let you get the thin bags in the produce section, and they don’t seem to stop you if you use them for some of your groceries. And you can buy a large reusable plastic bag at the checkout for a slight fee. These larger, heavier bags will, of course, never find their way into a landfill because...
Coming back home it was great to have my groceries bagged in brand-new unused bags that I can repurpose for dog leavings, etc.
It’s Cuomo’s NY!
Yep. With flies buzzing in and out our eyes and ears. I hate liberals.
Don’t forget the part where checkout takes twice as long while the checker tries to figure out how to arrange your 2 1/2 bags of groceries into two bags because you refuse to buy any more.
They’d better wash the reusable bags. They spread bugs (and viruses) around.
Stupid law foisted on us by a colossally stupid governor for his own interests.
Reusable bags will lead to food poisoning.
First they wanted to safe the trees by making us use plastic bags, now they charge for paper bags that used to be free.
Just my thought. Bet we never see stats on coronavirus spread by reusable bags.
I would use instacart grocery delivery and let them worry about it.
Hey! Y’all got what ua voted for!!
Don’t come cryin’ to me!
Ano engineered virus would do the trick.
Remember when liberals told us we had
to use plastic bags because we were
killing the forests by using paper?
I do.
